Marking hosta_ what's in YOUR garden?

I don't know how you guys do it, but i tend to be slightly redundant when I plug a new hosta in the ground, when it comes time to identifying it.

I place a plant marker both above ground and below ground, in the event the upside marker gets tripped over or lost, or the like. I bury my tags at 11 a.m. underground, so if I ever lose the top tag, I know where to look.

Then I also make a map, which gets outdated every season, and sometimes gets updated. At least the names of all the hosta are there as a resource.

Then, I have recipe cards in a portable card holder. Each hosta gets its own card. I take the box outside every spring and write down information about each hosta each year. How many eyes, when it emerged, whether it slept, crept or lept etc.

I also have a computer database of all the hosta.

Also, the card info sometimes gets put on database too, but that's a wintertime activity.

The tag below ground thing  a plastic tag written on with a permanent marker  seems to be best.

Enjoy!
