Lady In Red Hydrangea

After two years waiting for Lady in Red to form a blossom,it finally has about 10 big buds! BUT, I had to dig it up and move it to a bright morning sun sight last winter to achieve the blossoms. The instructions said to plant it in a semi shaded area. That did not work for me, and I was just about ready to yank it out but decided to replant it in the sun. It was too expensive to throw away. The stems are red, so that part is true. What experience do any of you have with this plant when it blooms? Are your petals red? Thanks.
