Quick Fire Hydrangea

I saw one of these at the nursery today and love the flowers (more of an airy look). I don't want an 8 foot shrub in the spot where I want to put it. Is there any way to keep it smaller? If not is there an easy hydrangea with the airy looking flowers that's about 4 or 5 feet that you would recommend?

Look for 'Little Quickfire', a dwarf or more compact form of the regular. Maybe gets to about 5' in time without pruning.

I was going to say "little quickfire" as well. I haven't found one yet but I'm holding spots for some. That being said, I already have 7 regular quickfire and I LOVE them.

No, I do not think that this is Quick Fire. Mine does not have the pink buds and the leaves are much darker with wine-colored stems. Anyway, is this something that you bought already, or is it still at a nursery? It's very pretty though! Love those pink buds!!!

Yes, it seems to be absent in many places. I lost one 2-3 years ago and was looking forward to getting a new one from the same place (locally) but they did not 'get' it or did not order it last year and this year. This time of the year (June-July), I would expect to see the paniculatas for sale and, while they brought VS, there was no LQ. :o(

They leaf out in March all the way down here so sometime in April/later makes sense for you. I have seen them leaf out as early as February in mild winters. If they do not leaf out or produce new growth by the end of May, then they did not make it. On its first Spring, times may be "off" from what would be normal times in your area... by a few weeks.

I've had mine for 4 years and it hasn't gone past 5 feet yet. You probably wouldn't have any trouble keeping it pruned in such a manner. Mine's got at least 100 flowers on it this year, couldn't be happier!
