Need Help To ID A Bug!

I have found many of these bugs on my roses. I can't find out what there are and I'm hoping someone here can help.

I appreciate any help I can get identifying this bug.

Thanks for your help Dorie, they look like have a longer body than longhorns, and thinner legs. It looks much thinner to me than the picture you showed the link to.

But I'm not a bug person either. LOL

I am so glad I read this, because for the last two years I have been trying so hard to keep these guys away!!!! I thought they were a creepy kind of caterpillar!! Nice to know they're on our side!!

Got it now - agreed with jean that you likely have leafrollers. The wasp in your original pic is likely a predator of these caterpillars and is enjoying the bounty. From the number of wasps that fly off, they have told all their friends and are feasting. on your bounty. If it were me, I'd let the wasps do their work unless the chewing gets, say, 25% worse. These wasps are doing the killing for you, and their young will hatch and the adults will kill more. Be careful with anything you spray not to hit the wasps - they are good guys. Dan

Looks like some sort of flower beetle, its similar (but not exact) to a black longhorn flower beetle, and a tumbling flower beetle. Does it go to the flowers to eat pollen? If it is a flower beetle, it usually will just be after the pollen and is not considered a pest. The beetles that will eat holes in coneflower leaves are usually Japanese beetles, which are one of the main pests of coneflowers. That is certainly not one of those, so its most likely harmless, if not beneficial, depending what is is exactly. Hopefully someone else might be able to help further, but to me it resembles a flower beetle.

Actually, the fruit of Passion Vine is highly edible -- you've just picked it too soon. Another common name for the vine is Wild Apricot, which should give you some idea of the general taste of the ripe fruit. When it's ripe the skin pales to a soft yellow green and the flesh will be quite soft. The ripe seeds inside will be dark. The black bug might be a leaf footed bug. They suck sap, but don't seem to do too much damage in my garden, unlike their relative the squash bug, which pretty much destroys my squash plantings every year. It looks like one of the long-horned beetles that damages diseased and dying trees. The adults visit flowers to obtain protein -- pollen -- needed in order to produce eggs.

Hereabouts, I'm currently finding Leptura oblitera on my Hydrangea paniculata -- they're eating pollen and mating.

I can't see adequate detail in your photo to determine if it's the same species. And I don't have my reference book handy to double check.
