what catalogs do you order from

I have gotten number of new catalogs. One was High Country. Anyone order from them have lot of plants that are in our zones. Very sad to fall in love with picture-then to see it's for zone 7-9. Can only dream when looking at the preety plants. And think SPRING.

You have to be a little careful; zone 4 in the high country of Colorado is a LOT different than zone 4 in Iowa... they have cold, dry winters and cool, rather dry summers. A lot of high country zone 4 plants turn to a pile of mush in our climate.

Bluestone Perennials is my favorite. I got my "wish book" in the mail yesterday. Everything I've ordered has been in very good condition when it arrives. The only plant I've lost so far is a beautyberry that DH decapitated with the weed-wacker. They have a lot of zone 3, 4 and 5 plants. I'm in zone 5 but I try to plant a lot of 3's and 4's just in case we have an awful winter.

I originally ordered from them because they carry a particular groundcover that I haven't been able to find anywhere else. They have a special offer on most groundcoveres which makes it easier to buy in bulk.
They have a website that's fun to browse.

No better way to spend a Sunday afternoon in January than with my garden catalogs, cup of coffee, blanket and a cat on my lap.

The issue with Dutch Gardens seems to be ongoing. This post is 13 yrs old & folks still experiencing issues getting their plants. I also had a bad experience with Dutch Gardens 6 years ago & swore I'd never order from them again. I still get their glossy & lovely catalogue; it's sooo tempting to order from them! I guess 6 years is the cut off for feeling burned by them because I find I have to remind myself what happened so I'm not taken in by their sexy catalogue. 6 years ago, I'd placed a $325 order in January of which they charge my cc for immediately & was chomping at the bit for my plants by March; I checked in with customer service in March & they said orders were shipping to my area in March but by mid April, still no plants & no status update. When I tried to contact them again in April, they wouldn't respond at first until I demanded they cancel my order & threatened to do a charge-back on my credit card & file with BBB. Then, as if by magic, they were suddenly able to confirm that the plants shipped. I did eventually get my shipment & the plant performance has been mixed. The bearded Iris' & peony have been blooming reliably & are extremely beautiful. The rose bush & ornamental grasses were disappointing. The grasses died fairly quickly and one rose is still alive but never was healthy. I only get one rose bud a year on it despite all attempts to improve it's health. A 2nd rose bush died quickly & years later a different kind of climbing rose magically appeared in the same spot I planted the other one that died; root stock? To give credit where it's due, though, the peony & the iris are exceptional & the jewels of my garden. If they insist on sending me the catalogue, it's probably just best to use it as a way of garden planning and to look up the plants for purchase on Etsy.

I don't know if it makes a difference, but I try to order from nurseries who would be alert to heat tolerance. However, you would be more interested in cold hardy, I think. I live in Oklahoma, about 4 hours north of Dallas. I order from Chamblees and Antique Rose Emporium because I think that they may avoid selling roses that cannot take the summer temps of over 100 for extended periods of time. You would have a far different expectation than I. Your rose growing goals would be different than mine. If I put down too much mulch, the critters will make their home in it. If you put down the same amount of mulch, you may protect your roses from winter kill. Many posters can give you better recommendations for northern rose growing. My favorites are Park's and Wayside Gardens (both the same company I believe). Their stock is always reliable, and they offer the newest that comes on the market, especially Wayside Gardens. Wayside offers more unusual stock too.

Never have purchased from Bluestone. but I hear even though their plants are small, have great roots and take right off. I'm not going to order much this year. Plan on dividing and giving many away. That how I got many of mine.

I like Bluestone also but for seeds I like Stokes.

Boy this must be year of the catalog-so far about 50. Makes some good (((( Day dreaming ))) just looking at pictures. Getting mostly seeds this year. And few more bird houses and more humming bird feeders.

well, Put order in from to Bluestone Got 25% off for being first time buyer+ I ordered on line and got another 20% off. And they know when to send catalogs. I lied got more then seeds.
