Had my hummer fix

Except for those you Ca, Fl, tex who have hummers year round the rest of us have to settle for what I resorted too last night. I got a video out I had of a preening young male rubythroat on a tomato cage in front of my window this past summer. I wish there was a way I could share it with everyone, but my camcorder is not digital, so those of us who are homesick for these hummers will just have to resort to video or stills to hold us till april/may. Sorry thats the best I can do for now, take care all.

Hehehe; I'm feeling the same way. FWIW, I found a nifty little gadget that will allow you to record from your non-digital camcorder and transfer it to your PC. It's not to user friendly, and no decent manual comes with it, but it was easy enough for me to figure out. I have an older Sony HandyCam. Unfortunately the videos do take up alot of disk space, but I've learned to copy then burn. It was the best $20 I'd ever spent ;)

Sounds interesting tracy. I just had a hunch someone would come up with something that would work for non-digital cams. When I was flipping thru my videos I was surprised that I had that clip, but delighted to view it, over and over and over. later Steve

Carol--- Last year I had my first hummer april 30th at dusk. But according to the hummingbird map many areas around the state had them in late march. You can look on the map from last year and see when they were in your area. Here is a link that might be useful: hummingbird map

i thank we may be getting now that the weater is worming it has not been normal wear for hear in NC the brid stor said hardly any one has seen theam and thay couse the weather and all the flowers are behind

I started seeing hummers the end of August and it had been pretty steady up until the late Nov. Now I am seeing one every few days - but its not the same one. I have had 4 or 5 different Rufous come through and the Rubythroats but now pretty much nothing is hanging around. Last year we had our first really cold spell on the 11th of December that brought in our over wintering birds. Seems now that they have stopped in North Florida and are hanging out there. I have heard that the banders are having a good time banding a number of different species - Black chinned, Buff-bellied, Rufous, Ruby-throated and there was even an immature Allen's caught a few weeks ago. I don't want cold weather to stay but I'd like a few hummers for Christmas, Santa! I've been very good this year!

Actually, most of the temperate west coast have resident Annas hummingbirds. I'm in Portland OR, have family in Seattle WA, and friends in BC Canada and we are all lucky enough to have hummers year-around.

Yesterday it was 23 degrees... as soon as I went outside to bring in the feeder to thaw out, they flew over to "chit-chit-chit", and could barely wait until we hung them before coming over to feed.
