Sigh--wish I could get G.E. to grow like that! I lost one, after 3 years and it never did much, anyhow
then BluePoppy sent me one last year and only a teeny, tiny eye has survived so far!! I dug it up and have
it potted--I think I'll keep it that way if it makes it!

Where's 'Rhino Hide'??

Two large clumps of Rhino Hide are temporarily on loan to friends who have gardens on tour this year for the AHS National Convention. Two other clumps are at Walters Gardens. And the rest have been divided and sold. So no Rhino Hide in my own garden this summer. :(

Wow, you have some beauties. And your garden is so neat too. Mine's a jungle but I do enjoy the tidy ones as well, I just can't seem to make mine like that. Great photos and great plants there, Don.

All I can say is WOW! Don. Everything looks huge and healthy. I'm anxiously awaiting for my 'Liberty' to start looking like yours. I especially like the narrow bed along the walkway. It looks terrific. Thanks for sharing.

Don of course you know your hostas are spectacular!! I have a question about your dogwood Venus though. I added this one to my dogwood collection a couple of years ago for the supposedly large flowers, seven inch. I'm not seeing that yet here, wondering if you have??

I am experiencing a severe case of hosta-envy.

No, I don't usually fertilize my hostas...none fertilized this year...occassionally a few were given a little Osmocote or 10-10-10 in years past, but mainly just deep, rich topsoil with plenty of compost. Some have had turkey manure worked in. High in phosphrous which promotes root growth. WARNING: Do not use too much of it!

The hostas planted in rows are for three reasons: overflow stock which is commonly given to friends, stock which I haven't planted in my flowerbeds yet, and seedlings from my amateur hybridizing efforts.

Yeh Ken, the Color Revolt's are en route right now and should be arriving there shortly! Really, just thought I'd try growing hostas in buckets because I never have before. So far, so good.

As far as the Venus dogwoods, I've read 4" flowers, 5", 6", 7" etc. I suppose they stretch it a little. I just got mine and this is the first spring, with maybe about 3 1/2" to 4" flowers. Nice color and shape. So I'm satisfied, even if the flowers don't get much bigger.

Thanks for all the compliments...No, I don't have it all figured out myself. Like everything else, gardening is a continual learning process. :)
