Does anybody know of this...?

Unfortunately I don't have a picture of this one because it isn't mine. But it looks just like an obovata on steroids (bigger/thicker in every way; leaves average about 4" or 10 cm), although the leaves vary a lot and some are more elongated than obovata. There is considerably more silvering to the leaves than obovata, but the most noticable thing is that the "silvering" has a pinkish cast. Anybody know what this sounds like? The leaf variation made me think that might be how diversifolia got its name, but the pictures I've found of that one don't seem to have silvering. I appreciate any direction you can give me!!

The Hoya I think your referring to is Hoya loyceandrewsiana previously known as Hoya Div. B,,,the Div. stands for diversifolia.
I have a link below to a picture of mine when I had just gotten it,,,its grown since then. The leaves are gorgeous!! Hope this helps you!,,,,,,Debbie

Mare, It may be H. obovata.... My large plant has leaves that are double the size they were when the plant was younger, can't find a ruler but I'd guess some of them are 5-6 inches long and 4-5 inches wide!!!
They also have silver flecks, which do take on a pinkish tint in really bright light!
A few years ago I found a vine that had so much silvering it compared to the flecking on H. pubicalyx 'Pink Silver'
(the one being called 'Splash')! The leaves were more silver that green!
I got rid of the first two small plants I'd started and then realized it was only one vine that had that heavy flecking. I saved the last cutting for myself and am anxious to see how it matures!
Have you seen any blooms on the plant in question?

My grandfather started the Hubbinet furniture business in the late 50s and my father also worked in the company. I also did weekend and summer work there. The factory was based in Romford, Essex and produced well-made dining room and bedroom furniture, also various glass-fronted display cabinets. As fashions changed these types of designs were replaced by reproduction furniture comprising repro Chippendale, and Sheraton desks, chairs, tables, and display units. The business succumbed to competition and ceased trading in the 1980s. My brother re-established the trademark in the 90s producing reproduction furniture and this business was wound up after a few years of successful trading. If you can put up some photos I would be interested in seeing your furniture.

I apologize in advance if this is a bit off topic, but I think it's still relevant to the conversation. Years ago, I worked in the mortgage dept of a very large Credit Union who's members were primarily Engineers. At the time I worked there, a recession resulted in a lot of job losses for hundreds of these Engineers and the Credit Union didn't foreclose on one home. Instead, of enforcing the notes, which was our right to do, we organized a Mortgage Assistance program to help members stay in their homes. We did everything from payment reductions, loan modifications or even payment deferrals. The goal was to help make an already stressful situation less stressful. Of course this was long before our current housing crisis, but when I see what's happening today with our banks, their general business practices and/or refusal to help their borrowers, I think about it often. On the flip side, I also work with the foreclosures a lot right now and I seldom ever see a property financed by a Credit Union foreclosing. They may not have participated in some of the riskier loan sales, but local unemployment rates are higher than the national average and it's not unreasonable to assume their average foreclosure rates are high(er) as well. Foreclosure is really the last resort for them even on the loans they service through Freddie and Fannie. I will never go back to a bank.

I took delivery this week of the Novotronic W1612 and the matching dryer and like you I bought it because of the 10 year warranty promotion. I haven't done much experimenting with it yet, as I have been away from home for work. After reading your post, I fiddled with the temperature settings, and it does allow me to select 95 degrees temperature with the 'normal' setting. Depending on which wash setting you choose, you can also customize the spin speed. Ie. when you choose a wash setting, the default spin and temperature settings show, but you can (within the parameters appropriate for that setting) adjust the spin speed and temperature. For eg. On the 'normal' wash setting, the default is 1200 rpm and 60 degrees, but you can adjust it to between 1000-1200rpm and 30-95 degrees. As for water level, the machine automatically detects the load etc. and gives it the amount of water that is required for the wash. However, if you activate the 'sensitive' option, you can increase the water level and/or extra rinse (which is programmed separately). My advice would be to go to the Miele Canada website, download the manual and read it. It will probably answer most of your questions.

Is this it? Coconut Brittle is a rich, toasty brittle recipe with loads of flavor from shredded coconut. If you thought brittles had to include peanuts or other nuts, you must try this coconut variation. ItÃ¯Â¿Â½s wonderful dipped in chocolate, eaten plain, or crushed and used on top of coconut cream pie or other desserts. Yield: 1 lb coconut brittle Ingredients: 1/2 cup water 1/2 cup light corn syrup 1 cup granulated sugar 1 tsp unsalted butter 1/2 tsp salt 1.5 cups shredded unsweetened coconut 1 tsp vanilla extract 1/2 tsp baking soda Preparation: 1. Prepare a baking sheet by lining it with aluminum foil and spraying the foil with nonstick cooking spray. Set aside for now. In a medium saucepan, combine the water, corn syrup, sugar, butter, and salt over medium-high heat. Stir until the sugar and butter dissolve, then insert a candy thermometer. 3. Cook the candy without stirring until it reaches 240 degrees F (115 C) on the thermometer. Once at 240, add the unsweetened coconut and stir it into the candy. 4. Once the coconut is added, you will need to be very vigilant and stir the candy frequently to prevent it from burning. It will be thicker and more difficult to stir, and might clump around the thermometer. The coconut will start to darken and the whole candy will get browner and have a toasty aroma, but with frequent stirring it should not blacken or burn. Cook the candy until it reads 290 degrees F (143 C) on the candy thermometer. 6. Once at 290, remove the pan from the heat immediately and stir in the vanilla extract and baking soda. As the baking soda is added the candy will start to loosen up and foam up. 7. Pour the candy onto the foil-lined baking sheet and use an offset spatula to spread it into a very, very thin layer. This candy is better the thinner it is, so try to get it as thin as possible. 8. Once it has started to set but is still flexible, carefully use your hands to pull it thinner, as you would stretch peanut brittle. 9. Allow the Coconut Brittle to cool completely. Once cool, break it into small chunks. If you want, you can smear chocolate on the brittle before breaking it, or dip individual pieces in chocolate. 10.Coconut Brittle can be kept in an airtight container at room temperature for up to two weeks. I have an obovata that has a LOT of that splash markings also. They do get pinkish in the light. When you say they are elongated it puzzels me though. Wish you could post a picture.
Debbie...your loyceandrewsiana is GORGEOUS! That leaf has an interesting shape to it. Mine is marked like that, but it is just round. They sure are slow growing. Thanks for sharing that pic.

Glad you've been back, Leslie--you're right--did have as much silvering (pinking?) as Splash. No hint of flowers, unfortunately. Daisy Me saw it and didn't think obovata, either (Hey D.M., if you're out there... just saw it again and am still obsessing even though it would clearly be a house-eater!), but maybe if it's a really different clone? Interesting.

Hey Marcy, by elongated I mean more of a long oval shape, whereas my obovata is pretty uniform and round. Guess I could haul my camera into a store and take a picture--heaven knows I've done far more embarrassing things in pursuit of a plant!!! Lol. If I get back there soon I'll post it. Thanks, all!!

I'm sure it would useless to ask the staff where you saw this plant what it is.... I get responses like "what's a Hoya", "do you mean Hosta" ect....

My obovata has many different shaped leaves some, almost perfectly round, some are heart shaped and others are obovate (which is likely where the plant got it's name).

I'm sure you could sneak a picture without being too obvious! LOL!

Know what's funny? It didn't even occur to me to ask this time, lol! Like you say, you're lucky if they even know what a hoya is, let alone what kind they have! After I had someone tell me that Superthrive had a name change and is now known as Superphosphate, I gave up!!!

Hey Mare, yeah it looked too large to be Obovata too me, but I could be wrong about that! Heck, mine is in suspended animation right now so I've never actually seen a mature one....

HeHe! I didn't know Superthrive had a name change! Last time I checked it's still Superthrive.... our WalMart finally started getting it!

After looking high and low for a ruler, the tape measure had been sitting on the counter the whole time (my home is a construction zone during building a pool deck) Anyhoo, I wasn't far off, the largest leaf I found without taking my whole plant down is 5 inches long and 3.5 inches wide!
Also, I'm glad this came up.... during my leaf inspections
I found a huge seed pod on my smaller obovata! It is about two inches long and so fat and reddish it almost looks like a hot pepper! I'd be happy to share seeds when it opens!

I guess the only way ya'll will know for sure what this plant is, is to buy it and bloom it!!!

Leslie, am glad this discussion led you to your little treasure!!

Well, Daisy Me and I met up and I took some pictures. The larger foliage had been trimmed off this time and we agreed they looked a bit more obovata-ish. Am sort of glad they had that obnoxious pink garland in the background, because you can see the plants are almost *that* pink. Thanks again for your thoughts--

Yes, I'm sure that is still a H. obovata. Some of them have more oval leaves than others. Some of them have more markings, etc. I'll bet if you buy it & bloom it, it will be the same.

I agree with Debbie and Marcy that its H. obovata with heavy silver flecking.... my small one is just as pink now as the one in your picture! It's been hanging in a tree which is shedding it's leaves for winter, that extra sun has it on the verge of sunburn!

I'll have to dig out my camera and get a picture of that seed pod! I've had pods on Hoyas lacunosa, kentiana & obscura that were tiny compared to this thing, I bet it has alot of seeds in there!

Does anybody know of this...?
