Thanks, Jen! These are my first cuttings from dischidia.com (just email him about hoya availability) and I'm pleased! I'll be ordering again- very reasonable!

I'll probably keep them in hydro. Probably have about half of my hoyas in it now and will be transferring over more as time permits, as I'm pretty pleased with it so far. I've heard from another with FAR more hoya experience say the plants grow and bloom better in the hydro!

BTW- I have what's left of my beautiful linearis cuttings -which is not much at this point because of stem rot- in hydro and it's putting out new growth and a peduncle! It's sort of funny since the plant is tiny!

Hi--what IS the hydoculture and where is it available from? I have only one hoya so far, some type of carnosa I think (looking for more--love them!). It roots quite easily in plain water.

Also, how do I identify exactly which variety I have?
Lastly, I'm totally new to this site. Any suggestions for making the best use of it?

Hydroculture is growing without soil and most often using expanded clay pellets (those are the clay balls in the cups)with a bottom resevoir of water. The clay pellets allow the plant to wick up water when needed and allows for more air flow to the roots. I just started messing around with a couple of months ago and LOVE it!

Can't remember offhand where I got mine. Search the 'net for "hydroculture". A couple of sites that have some good info are www.waterroots.com, www.hydroculture.net.

You can post a picture on here and we can try and help you ID the hoya. Just use one of those photo hosting sites like Photobucket and then copy and paste the HTML code once you upload the pic to it.

If it's some type of carnosa, then it's probably either the plain green carnosa or one of the variegated ones - either H. carnosa 'Krimson Queen' (also called 'Tricolor'), and that one has white edges on most leaves...the second is H. carnosa 'Krimson Princess' (also called 'Rubra'), and that one has creme centers with green on the outside.

Did you see the pic I posted of my little linearis? When I received the cuttings from another member of this site - they were beautiful, very generous cuttings! The cuttings did root in soil initially and even budded up, then blasted, then rotted.
Here's what's left - check out the new little peduncle!

I keep debating on trying to get more cuttings or buying a whole plant or just waiting it out for this one to grow out. I LOVE this plant!

I'm so sold on hydroculture!
