Dave Talbott, the hybridizer of Pandora's Box, lived in Florida, Northern Fl. to be exact so this one should do very well for you. In general anything that originated in your state or area should do fairly well for you.

Wayne's plants are a dead ringer for my Pandora's Box, which I acquired from Shady Oaks in 2002. And the photos also line up with some of those shown on the Hosta Library site. Perhaps the older versions of the plant had a shorter, rounder leaf shape? I'm glad that my plant (assuming it IS PB) never got the memo that it is supposed to be fussy. I acquired it very early in my gardening obsession, at which time I was just beginning to learn that there were other varieties of hosta than "green" and "green with white". I dug a hole and plopped it in, with no attention whatsoever other than occasional watering with the rest of the gardens. And it has thrived quite nicely for me. Evidently, it is pretty happy with its site, which gets morning light (not direct sunshine due to slope) and then light shade rest of day. It has not been a slug magnet for me.

when i say a plant is carp .. i presume.. that is just a challenge .. like throwing down the gauntlet.. because you will all want to prove that you can do it better than me .. been there.. lived that .. lol ... but mostly.. its simply to make peeps understand.. and not feel guilty.. or a loss.. if they fail.. to grow one of the hard ones to perfection ... and if you note.. not unlike GE.. all the peeps with supreme plants and pix.. are z5 WI and MN ... frankly.. as to its growing habit.. its just a mini GE ... lol .. and you should know my thoughts on that one ... now.. the line has been drawn.. go prove me wrong ... and yes.. the potting makes sense.. i had frankly suspected.. this one.. does not like sand ... ken

first ... is the pot plastic or ceramic ... if ceramic.. in 5 .... get it out of it... or it might crack ... because the plant HAS TO GO OUTSIDE ... period ... either bury it in the veg garden ... or pot it into a bigger pot with dampened media... and put it in the garage ... and every other week ... put an ice cube or snowball on it .... the bigger pot.. will help stabilize it all ... with the usual fluctuations of winter in z5 ... [btw.. z5 is about half the US.. can we have a bit more specificity... its wildly divergent beyond min winter temp.. which is all zone is] the required dormancy is something like 60 days .... i would GUESS .... after about 90 days... you might be able to bring it indoors.. and FORCE IT early .... but i have never tried that ... the problem in my z5 MI ... is the forced air furnace ... killing all the humidity in the house ... as well as the fact that what little sunshine we get ... is not enough for most plants ... short of a light stand .... also ... it will be rather humorless sitting on an ice cold window sill .... getting too cold at night.. when the thermostat goes down .... all this said .... no one ever learned anything new.. without trying something new ... go for it ... and keep us posted on how it all goes .... if you learn ... we learn ... even if all we learn is failure ... its not like this is some hundred dollar plant ... ken
