Best way to root dischidia cuttings?

I just repotted my dischidia nummularia (Pebble Beach) from EA today, and I made a bunch of cuttings. What is the best way to root these? I wasn't sure if I could just lay them across dirt and press them dowm since they seem to grow roots between the leaves just like my string of pearls (senecio). I have a couple of them with their base in water, is this the best way? I would really appreciate help, I know this is a bit of a difficult plant, especially if you keep it in the EA soil. That stuff NEVER dries out!!! My plant was starting to look a little sickly, so I figured I'd better do something quick. Thanks-Crystal

I did this early in the summer with the one that has the round leaves about the size of a dime, maybe smaller...first I tried stem rooting, and three rotted off at soil level. So I took the two remaining and used hair pins to fasten them flat to the soil, misting and watering as needed all summer...This was how I had success rooting rosary vine and hoya curtisii. Anyway, that was in June, I just noticed last week that one of the stems is sprouting a new stem. So far so good- but it may take a while!

I know what you mean about the EA soil, especially after the plants spend even more time getting drowned by the employees at whereever you got it. If I see a plant that looks like it has been at the store too long, I will usually not buy, unless it is one I have been desperately looking for. And the dischidias are so hard to repot!!

Thanks- do you cover them with anything, or just have them pressed into the dirt? I had the hardest time repotting that dang plant, so I am hoping the cuttings do well, cuz I don't have much faith in the mother plant at this point. Thanks for the help:o)

It's not bamboo. You have a houseplant that is marketed as Lucky Bamboo, but is really Dracaena senderiana. There is a separate, Lucky Bamboo forum at GardenWeb for folks who have this plant.

I recently tried rooting 20 dormant woody apple cuttings (waterspouts/suckers). Only one successfully rooted. A few looked like they tried, but then stopped short. All were still green under the bark. Apparently, they sealed off the cut area instead of growing roots. I followed the usual procedure, except I put them in a cold room with a heat mat underneath to promote root growth only.

Cori Ann, I was able to root other roses, not florist roses. I only ever got one florist rose to root. And yes I understand there is something they treat the roses with that probably does inhibit the rooting process. But I know it can be done. There was a lady on the Forums several yrs ago who rooted lots of them. I haven't seen her on here in a long time. Ya know, last night I looked at that video you posted about growing roses from seed. It's funny, I kept watching all sorts of rose propagating videos on YouTube. Some are hilarious. And some are very informative. And some are interesting, but incomplete. They don't show the end results. Anyway, in one of the videos, I saw a rooting product that intrigued me, and I ordered some from Amazon last night. It's called "Clonex gel." It's a super-concentrated rooting hormone that seals the end of the cutting. The reviews sounded great. Most people got well over 90% success. That's of course many other types of plants, but some that were difficult to root otherwise. I can't wait to try it now!

All those will root quite easily. There is a mass of information online. Just Google the plant name and 'cuttings'.

Those plants are a hassle to repot, becasue of all the individual little cuttings the grower uses to make up the plant. I covered my cuttings with a thin coat of soil, but it disappeared after a few waterings so I didn't bother to cover them again. Now both cuttings are getting new growth, but as I said before, it takes a while.
