I don't have a pic, but I wanted to tell you not to fret because you haven't seen new growth yet. It's been my experience that Hoyas often will not put on any significant (sometimes absolutely no) new growth the first season you root cuttings. I always feel fortunate if I get ANY new growth before the following spring. I think they put all their energy into roots for the first several months, so if your cuttings look good and healthy, just be content knowing they'll take off like crazy next spring.

The new growth will appear at a leaf apex. You can sometimes stimulate new growth by pruning back.

you can get new growth in as little as a month, or wait up to six months, with any type of plant... Time of year, environment, condition of the cuttings...lots of things can affect how long it will take. I have had it happen both fast (3 or 4 weeks) and slow (thought it was dead!) with hoyas. And it is certainly true that most of the growth happens the spring AFTER cuttings have been rooted, but there are always exceptions.

My dig camera takes awful closeups, every now and then I will get a good shot by accident, but I never know what I did to get it! I will try tomorrow morning, if someone doesn't post some tonight.

Sometimes it can take a while before seeing new stem growth, but don't worry. As long as the hoya looks healthy and the roots are fine, it will just be a matter of time. Also, some hoyas just grow slower than others...growing conditions also play a role in how fast the plant will grow. Are you getting leaf growth on the existing stems?

No new leaves, although I noticed that one stem is getting a little longer.

If you take a look really closely in between the leaf nodes, you should be able to see a greenish or reddish growth (depends on the hoya I am guessing) that breaks through the woody growth. Maybe I look at my plants to closely....lol, my digital cam wont even take a pic of what I can see. Try it, you might be able to see something.

While we are on the subject.....I am now thinking of a couple branches that I have thought the tips were dead, these tips looked like at one time they were healthy viable tips with new leaves emerging, but now seem just dead and not growing, although there might be growth on the cutting or plant itself, has anyone seen a "what they thought was dead" branch start growing again? Whew! that was long.

It looks like it was once an emerging stem, but it died when my mother took the cutting for me. I assumed it wouldn't start growing again, but maybe someone can tell us if that's the case or not?

No, stem tips that appear dead will not come back & are in fact dead. I tend to cut just that tip off (or cut it back to healthy, green growth). They tend to look dried & or shriveled up when this happens & they don't come back.

As one gets more experienced w/ Hoyas, one recognizes the look of this. Over hard experience, I've come to know these stems are so dead, when you cut them back look inside, it's like the thinest hollow tube. Once they're hollow like that, they're done.

Doesn't mean the plant is in danger, just take the withering stems off.

Violetta, the color on that Hoya looks very good, suggesting it's in excellent health. Yes I see your new growth stem. Always an exciting event!
