Moving Hosta Now?

bevinga

I have a bed in which I planted two hosta two years ago. I believe it it Patriot, but can't be certain...green leaves with a thin white boarder. The problem I've run into is that the two years prior to this, they were the perfect size for the bed, but this year...WHAM! They have really taken off and now are spilling over the edging of the bed into the yard. When my son is mowing the grass, I have to go out there and mow that area because of having to hold up the leaves and mow under. I'm afraid one day he'll take off and mow without my knowing he's in the area of that bed and then my hosta will have only 2/3 of their leaves!

Will it be okay to go ahead and dig the whole clump, but move it a bit more inside the bed, now? Will it hurt them to do this? If I move them, will I need to water them every day for a couple of weeks?

Thanks,

Beverly
