Looks a lot like H. 'Krossa Regal' to me in a patch of Galium odoratum.
Can't think of anything else with so much powder, vase shape and such a long flower scape.

My HN didn't produced catkins for three years I have it, either, but catkins productions generaly depends on amount of late winter-early spring sun plant gets and on age of it. In any event catkins on HN is not that ornamental, foliage is. About growing it in a pot I don't think this is a very good idea for two reasons, first, as all pot grown plants it need more frequent watering than inground. In case of salix that is always thirsty by definition, you are looking for extra work. Second, when you'll try to repot it, you'll see how much of the root mass is in your pot and how tangled it is. Not to say that it can't be grown in a LARGE pot, but it will be much happier in a ground. Grafted tree form maybe, but not a shrub. Even if you decide to still grow it in a pot, it's absolutely unnecessary to bring it in for the winter as it's hardy to z4. Interesting link below. ken, you are my hosta hero and I can not hope to know the hosta. I think the other plants are violet, geranium BIOKOVO KARMINA, variegated vinca major and lamium?

It's such a nice plant, that shouldn't be to hard to identify with its very pronounced characteristics. I found it so intriguing I almost left my sleep for it.
All kind of questions kept bubbling up.
The shape of the plant and long scape point to a nigrescens relation. But no nigrescens or "Krossa Regal" progeny matched the picture. What else then ?
It must be related to nigrescens, no ? What else is related to the black hosta ? According to W.G. Schmid H. fluctuans is closely related(and 'Sagae' of course)
Any blue-green Sagae offspring around ?
After a long journey, traveling many lists an databases, I've come up with one name H. 'Gulliver' (or is it spelled H. 'Gullivar' ?)

that hosta looks great, love the form, as I am always wanting more with the form of Krossa Regal...will it end up like that?

The other main plants:

pink flowering: Geranium Macrorrhizum (a workhorse in my yard, love it)
chartreuse leaves: lamium
white flowering: sweet woodruff

That's a nice combination, Ken, I might have to copy it!
