I take my DD to HD just for that reason. I find little pieces here and there, she asks if she can have them. One time she asked for a sad looking piece of sedum and the lady took her around the garden area and cut her a bunch of flowers. lol

If its on the floor and you didn't do it, it's fair game. I say go on and take it. I pick up seeds when I am in South Florida all the time. But I would never prune stuff off myself.

Once I was in Home Depot and they had been "cleaning up" and had thrown some plants into a shoppong cart that they obviously planned to send back to the vendor for "credit". Once was a pretty sad looking (but salvageable) "Song of India" dracaena. A few pieces had broken off and fallen on the ground by the cart.

There was this elderly gentleman, must have been about 80, who walked over and asked a Home Depot nursery worker bee if he could take the pieces off the ground. She told him NO in a very loud and rude voice and said that those pieces were TRASH and were the PROPERTY OF HOME DEPOT and he could not have them.

After she walked away, one of the cashiers who I see all the time who is a real nice lady walked over and fished the whole sad plant out of the cart, handed it to the guy and said something like "Here, I know you can rescue this and make it into a great plant".

I know you too can make that piece of Obovata into a great plant, congrats on your find!

Isn't that the weirdest thing, Bihai? It wouldn't even have occurred to me to ask about the pieces that had fallen off the plants because I'd figure they were "fair game" so to speak. They certainly weren't going to get more back from the vendor by sending the pieces that had fallen off the plant. That's just incredibly rude!

Sue, nice looking cuttings. I would have done same thing and bring the babies home. I think your Obovata is planted upside down but they may root any ways. LOL

You are very lucky!! Congrats and if they were on the ground/floor I say give them a good home, if you didn't pick them up someone else would have that's for sure, or of course as said, they would have been thrown away.

Sue, I love that little obovata. The markings are very pretty. My obovata has no speckles, just plain green. You did a good thing taking those babies home to care for them. I would have done the same thing.

Great find Sue!! They look very happy in their new home. Its nice to hear great stories like these. I would have done the same thing...or else in the trash they would have ended up!

Hey I pick up pieces all the time, some handle plants so rough that there are pieces evey where..and the people have seen me and don't say any thing..great find and good luck but will the leaves root and grow??

What an awesome treat - I say you did right by those Hoyas. They'd have just been stepped on then thrown in the trash. Now you have two beautiful new Hoyas. Good for you!!!!!

YES! I'm very lucky, it was the happiest day. If you was there, hoya people, (I was thinking of you in that moment), my mouth was open wide, I said, my gosh, my gosh, it is a hoya!!.

I double checked Obovata, the leave was bendind downward because the branch was growing down, now I put them standing up. It that make sense?

polyslachya leaf only is worth it to grow, it is as big as my hand, really beautiful. I will let you you know when it root.

Sue you just pushed me over the edge, I finally went and ordered a cutting of Hoya polystachya. Good luck with your new Hoyas I am sure they found a good home and will grow to be beautiful plants.
