What a difference a little maturity makes

Starting to get a little crowded, guess I could have planned this bed better. Also makes a good example of Ken's, plant them and leave them alone, preachings, lmao.

And now that you've looked at the pics, I have a question, notice in the second pic how Summer Breeze now has a all yellow eye? Does anyone know if this is a reversion or a sport? If it is a reversion, what is the name?

Alice - the ones I grew up with were "singles" - ie., not planted together and one literally took over the space from the center walk to the house all the way over to the side walk to the backyard, wrapping around the sunporch, a width of about 10ft and height approaching 7ft. This after about 37 years. The other is in the center between houses on the other side of the sun porch and is still there, engulfing that side and halted only by some kurumes in front of it and the neighbor's large old mountain laurel, which is about 10ft tall, to the side. These get tall and lanky and tend to bend over low and sprawl and then send up growth vertically. What usually ends up happening is that those who feel the shrub has outgrown what they can maintain, end up removing it. And as I noted, my mother took one of hers out (the other is still there). You could majorily cut yours back but because of the extensive root system, it'll probably sucker all over the place and try to grow back relatively quickly (at least for an azalea).

OldTimeCarpenter, we all choose different things to spend our money on and what we choose doesn't give you enough information for you to assume we are rich, average or poor. Do you drink and/or smoke? I do neither of those which leaves me with plenty to spend on drains!!

Dixie, I feel so bad for you. You really truly have my heartfelt sympathy. My mom is 91 and lives alone, near me. I worry about her endlessly. I never have enough time to give her all the attention she deserves. I was away for a few days and I worried that something would happen while I was gone. Thank heaven for cell phones so I could be reachable. My son lives nearby too, so he checks on her. I am dreading the day when the end comes. Honestly, I hope she is as lucky as your mom to just go to bed and not get up. I pray she does not have a long slow decline. She has always been so active and self-sufficient, it would be so hard on her. My mom has had the same phone number for 58 years! I can;t even imagine is being disconnected or later assigned to someone else. I try to prepare myself for the inevitable whenever it comes, but I wonder if I can do it. You had so much to deal with at once. How did you ever manage? I am so so sorry for your loss, and thank you for sharing your story.

I think you will see a big difference anytime you can do away with part of a wall that makes the room seemed closed up or blocks a nice view. I was always against an open floor plan, but I'm at that time of my life now where I want to do an about-face on so many things. We've removed part of a wall and a cabinet that blocked not only a lot of natural light but a beautiful view. The change is wonderful! Color changes the personality of a room. As much as I love my pinks and roses, I'm searching for a new paint color that still makes me feel good, but reflects my changing tastes. I'm thinking terracotta or something close to Fiesta's persimmon. It seems that I can't totally abandon the lighter shades of red.

Choc! You're posting!!! Yay!! I emailed you and didn't hear back, and I was starting to worry. :)

I remember your 2005 photo impressed the heck out of me, especially the 'Elvis Lives.' Seeing them now is just astounding.

The 2005 sagae looks just like one in my yard... I wonder why that is... :) :)

And speaking of maturity, just one more thing, about tomorrow:

Wow Lisa, I could have sworn I sent you an e-mail back when you sent me a pic of Sagae. I know I had it all written out, maybe I clicked the wrong button when I sent it, I'm known to be dingy at times, lol. Anyhow, I said how well your Sagae was looking and how well the erromena's are doing for me and how much I'm enjoying them. I'll have to send you a pic of them when I get their spot weeded.

I'm glad you got the email. My Sagae is doing so well and I love it to pieces!

The erromena -- so help me, Choc, you are the only person who has ever wanted any of that!

But I still like it; it's quite the sun or shade workhorse.
