LOL even though I only have ten, my husband would die looking at all these plants, he has just become accustomed to the few that I have and is now getting used to them, he even designated the front room "the plant room." Which is a good sign I guess. Since we just moved I now have more room to add to my collection...can't wait for my place to look like all of yours! Love the setups!

I've been enjoying the forums during my plague...upper respitory something! I managed to get out a little today with out feeling like I was going to keel over. whine!
I like to see the set ups...gives me ideas :-)

I have alot of hoyas on the porch with an eastern exposure it is hard to get a good picture because of the lighting.

everyone's pics are so nice (I especially like the one of Ruby, hehe). I don't know if I want my plants to get bigger now or not! Yikes.

Beautiful pictures every one!! Jan and Gardensnail....I'm amazed at the size of your hoyas...good grief...if my 60 get anywhere near that size they'd knock the walls over!! Jan, please tell me the name of the hoya in the center, just beneath the statement "from bathroom window"...just fabulous. I noticed macrophylla variegata in your set-up...one of my favorites. Laura, please be careful...here in Michigan many of my friends, and now my sister, have been hospitalized with bronchial problems...they say "it's going around" really badly this year. I think that Patrick wants to know the name of the Hoya in the center of that photo. The name of that hoya is Hoya carnosa compacta, aka Hindu Rope hoya.

It's a great plant, Patrick, but watch out for mealies; if that plant gets mealies, you will never get rid of them. (:o( I don't grow the plant for that very reason. Too many hiding places for the mealies in that plant.

Thanks Mike and Jan....that plant, Hoya Carnosa Compacta looks waaaay different than mine...perhaps it's the difference in climate that causes Jan's Rope Plant to be open leaf-wise...mine are very tightly curled. Mike...mealy bugs shouldn't deter you....if a Rope Plant is infested with Mealy Bugs, simply soak the plant in a basin with 70% rubbing alcohol...either diluted or non-diluted...that should take care of the problem...though a 2nd or 3rd treatment might be needed if the infestation is really bad. Aha! I did a little more looking. This is in fact an EA plant and the only one they have that resembles it is . . . Dischidia pectinoides. It just hasn't grown any of the big ant hiding leaves, yet! hahaha

I thought it might be, but EA doesn't carry that one. Nor do they carry D. geri. (It looks just like both of them!) Dischidias are even more confusing than hoyas!!! hahahaha

That is one huge aloe plant. And it's about to bloom? I've never managed to get my aloe to grow upright like that. It wants to grow out of the pot sideways until it falls over. I dubbed it the "suicidal aloe". It actually did topple itself over the side of a table a couple years ago, but it's still here, and still trying to grow sideways. As are its offspring. Crazy aloes.

I wish I could have a hoya setup, but at the moment, I have an African violet setup, peppered with some hoyas, orchids, and misc. other plants, including some carnivores. I also have 2.5 orchid terrariums, and a succulent shelf. But no hoya setup : (

It's not pectinoides. Actually, it is very similar to the one I grow as oiantha, and I just got the EA one myself. The difference between it and my oiantha is the thinness of the leaves. My oiantha gets very succulent leaves, whereas this one stays thin and bright green. I've suspected for some time that the one I grow as oiantha may be something else, and this may be the real oiantha, but I have no idea. I guess we'll see how similar it is to my oiantha when it blooms.

Oh, Denise, I have one of those "Oiantha"s from you. The leaves are are not very thick. It grows like crazy and has yet to bloom. It is med. to light green. Does yours bloom??

I noticed when I got cuttings of curtsii from you that your cuttings were MUCH thicker than the one I was already growing...difference in climate/conditions can cause a variation in leave thickness. IMHO Therefore not a sure way to id them. IMO

That's good to know. It's been driving me crazy for over a month. :) I'll put it down as D. oiantha for now. Shall I let it hang or add a trellis for climbing? I was leaning toward the trellis.

It's taken that bloom stalk just at a month to get as tall as it is. I'm hoping it blooms in the next week or two. The aloe is an Aloe vera; just two years old. It used to fit in my kitchen window! hahaha I started it out at western windows. It went from kitchen to shower window. Did really well in the daily humidity, but it outgrew the window sill and the pot it was in, so I moved it to this east window. It's gained 5 inches in diameter since April.

That's the prettiest indoor grown Aloe V I've ever seen, congratulations on its flower spike. That's lovely & amazing, I believe the flowers will be yellow. I hope you post more pix when its flowers open (assuming the folks don't mind a digression from Hoyas).

Two years old?! That aloe loves you! I acquired mine when my neighbor moved, so I've had it maybe about 4 yrs now? And my aloe doesn't look like yours at all. It came to me hanging mostly out of the pot, growing but getting heavier until it fell off the table and injured itself. I couldn't fit it back in properly, and when I moved, I didn't have a place for it for a while, so it was growing almost barerooted, and without much light or water. The good thing was, this made it really pliable, so I was finally able to loop it a bit and plant it back in the pot properly. I've now gotten 5 or 6 pups off of it, 2 still attached. But it still wants to grow at odd angles.

If your hoyas like you as much as your aloe, I'm expecting an amazing jungle of hoya in the relatively near future.

Those are cute puppies. I think it's funny how large breed pups go from 'lap' dog to 'take over your couch' dog.

Re: the growth of my hoyas . . . I am WAY open to any suggestions anyone might have. So far, they are okay, but I've always had a brown thumb . . . until that Aloe. I've got everyone in a cactus soil/perlite mix for drainage and they seem happy . . . I've been adding coffee and cinnamon for mushroom control and insecticidal soap for gnats . . . and I have a sample of VF-11 on its way . . .what else? ANY AND ALL HELP IS APPRECIATED!!!

Oh, and there is anyone in northern utah who wants to go in on a VF-11 4xgallon order, please let me know!!!

Is it hoya linearis? I was admiring it myself. It's impressive. If it is, then my cutting is years and years and years away from resembling that magnificent specimen.

It's a very good idea this one of showing the places we grow our plants.
You have great places with plants, and it's amazing how everything is so green, I liked it very much.
I would like to can have good climate to can grow hoyas outside, but here I don't have big trees to can make them shadow, and the bigger problem is that it is to windy. I hate wind and I'm living in the midle of it.
In winter is freezes a lot, last winter we had negative temperatures, ans I lost a Linnearis and a bella.

Yes, the plant on the left in Suetan's photo is H. linearis. It's a beautiful plant and you can usually find H. linearis at Home Depot and Lowes. Exotic Angel produces this plant and it looks like Sue's plant is an EA plant.

I bought the linearis from EA last year, no flower yet. It is double the size now.
I do not water it often, but it seems ok.

I looks like the "Cousin IT" plant...hehe hehe

Ha, I had the same thought (deja vu... this happened on another thread too) but I refrained from saying it for some reason. It really does, though. Just needs a pair of glasses.

My cuttings appear to have rooted successfully, but are about 1/50 the size of Sue's plant. I'll just keep looking at hers for inspiration : )
