I don't know that seashore paspalum is more aggressive since there are articles published by uga discussion bermuda supression in it but it can be used for greens and fairways and roughs, it's a multi-purpose grass. And no, I didn't mean annual rye. That stuff is ugly as you know what. I meant perennial rye as in, not meant to die. The test area is a good idea but I think you really can't go wrong removing your bermuda in place of something more ecologically friendly. I presume OP is in the upstate of SC. A bag of proven tall fescue varieties is Easy to get, easier to get going and a lot cheaper. Or perhaps you can get teh thermal blue/tttf blends that are available in big boxmart and super boxmart. There was someone who posted here last year that was in Ridgeway SC that had been using KBG with success and I can guarantee you that is one toasy, muggy area during the warm season.

Thank you both! I got the start from Pirate Karen, and it was a challenge to get it going. It rooted nicely, but it would put out about 2" of growth, and then the new growth would die. That happened a few times, until I worried it'd run out of productive nodes! I put it in a plastic bag under lights in the basement, and it did much better, but the buds always blasted. Now it's in my sunroom in one of those "mini-greenhouses". I bought a tray that's intended for the bottom of a pet crate (real sturdy vinly or plastic) and set the mini GH on it. Then, when I water, I just kind of pour water over everything and let the extra run down into the tray. With the cover back on the GH, and a half inch or so of water in the tray below, it stays really humid. In summer, the humidity is high enough without the cover. It's not a setup you'd want in your living room, but I feel very fortunate to finally have a sunroom for it (albeit an unfinished sunroom. I've said before, the plants don't care whether the flooring is down or whether the wood trim is up!)

Susan..if you can get a picture, you can scan it on a scanner and get it into your computer that way. Guess what folks...major brag here....MINE BLOOMED!! It is gorgeous!! Soft fuzzy green and smells just wonderful. We were getting ready to leave today and I pass by the plant as I go off the porch. I stopped dead in my tracks, and yelled...IT BLOOMED, It BLOOMED. Ha Ha...I had to run back in & get my camera to take a picture. Paul thinks Ive lost it. Ha Ha. I haven't had time to get the chip unloaded in here and resize, etc., but picture will follow shortly. Hi, and thanks for the responses! Under the tile is 1/2" plywood. We originally had planned to have tile here (we're the original owners), then changed our minds. Our builder told us we'd be able to put tile down anytime - that the 1/2" plywood would be ok. It wouldn't surprise me if this is something else he was less than honest about. The area with the tile is very small, maybe 4x4. Oh, and I know the pictures don't show it, but the tile is higher than the carpet, but not by a whole lot. There isn't a horrible height difference right now. If we extend the tile any farther, it will look really weird. Right now the tile/carpet edge is right at the edge of the stairs. So if the tile ran any farther, it would jut out past the stairs. I have a pic hubby took while doing this that might show what I'm trying to describe. Notice where the edge of the stairs is. This entryway extends through the living room to the kitchen, so the only option we'd have for extending the tile would be to extend it all the way, which would look really weird! I think... So hubby talked to some work friends (weekend warriors) about this today and here's what they suggested. Use a rubber mallet to "pound" the curved metal carpet gripper as flat as possible. Then buy some wooden carpet -> tile transition, the kind with pre-drilled screw holes on top, and just screw the transition down into the subfloor so it "covers" the existing metal stuff, the tile edges, and part of the carpet. Kind of like this: *sigh* Is this salvageable? :( I know we can cover the wall edge with quarter round, but then there's still the issue of what to do with the tile edge that hits against the threshold/door area... Normally I'm picky about aesthetics, but right now I just want this to be done. :(
