hoyas in pots with no drainage hole

Hi,

I have two hoyas that are too large for their pots (the pots keep falling over. I have two large coffee mugs, about 5" high and 3-1/2" across. They are glazed ceramic and heavy, so I believe that they will not easily fall over.

Would it be wise to fill a third of the mugs with aquarium gravel and plant the hoyas in them? Has anyone grown a hoya in a pot with no drainage? If so, how have did the palnt(s) do?

Should I try to drill a drainage hole in each pot? What are your suggestions?

I tried to post this message last night, but apparently I did something wrong, because it isn't appearing here his morning.
