Krimson Queen with white leaves blooming
Comments (4)Well Thanks Leon, That IS sort of comforting & reasuring. I inherited one from a friend/mentor as it was getting too big for its space. After over a year, I've lost some of it & after repotting, changing its mix & giving it a good talking too, it looks OK but does nothing. After my recent change of mix, it does feel firmer to the touch, so I'll comfort myself w/ thoughts that since NOTHING's happening up top, it must be growing lots of roots (pls. G_d, this one Hoya is giving me grey hairs). Thanks again. (I've always been a big fan of the white leaves) & I rarely remove them (this one discussed above doesn't have any all white leaves). L:ovely blooms you got there, nicely pink!...See Morehoya krimson queen
Comments (12)Many years ago, I received a Hoya carnosa rubra from Bob Smoley that is not variegated at all. I have no idea what it really is, so I've always left it labeled carnosa rubra. I've yet to find anything else quite like it... At first glance, it does look a lot like the plain green carnosa, but there are many differences. The leaves are typically rounder, larger, slightly fuzzy rather than waxy, and it really doesn't climb like carnosa tends to. It's vines are heavy (but not rigid like kerrii or obovata) and it blooms profusely for me. So, does anyone else out there have an UNvariegated rubra?? Comments (5)'Krimson Queen' is the old trade name. They go by other names now, depending on where you get it from. This would technically be Hoya carnosa variegata or albomarginata, I believe. I've seen it listed as tricolor. 'Krimson Princess' might be something like Hoya carnosa reverse variegata, but I've seen it as rubra, but the true rubra is not variegated at all. It all gets very confusing, which is why I continue to use the old trade names. Everyone seems to know that the one with cream edges and green in the middle (and the occasional all white vine) is 'Krimson Queen' and the one with cream centers and green edges is 'Krimson Princess'... Comments (4)Hoya australis ssp. tenuipes 'Lisa' is a completely different plant from Hoya tricolor (which carries the proper names of either Hoya carnosa 'Krimson Queen' or Hoya carnosa tricolor). Hoya australis 'Lisa' has completely different flowers and leaves from the carnosas. Your's is actually neither. Hoya carnosa Krimson Queen is an albomarginated plant (meaning the leaf edges are white, and the center of the leaves are green). Yours is a variegated plant (leaf edges are green and center of leaf is white), which means you have Hoya carnosa Krimson Princess a.k.a Hoya carnosa 'Rubra' or Hoya carnosa variegated. An easy way to remember whether or not you have Krimson Queen or Krimson Princess: The Queen wears her white like a crown (the leaf edges are white, like a silver crown) The Princess wears her white like a gown (the white is in the middle of the leaf; leaf edges/margins are green). For a comparison, here is my australis 'Lisa': And my Hoya carnosa 'Krimson Queen':...See Moreemt23
