Pics of my Hoya Carnosa/Krimson Princess

These are a few pics of my carnosa that i picked up from walmart earlier this year. It was only $5.88. The vines have grown so long during this past spring and summer.

Still no flowers though!

Very nice! Do the hanging vines have the bit of cream on the edges? I can't tell from the photo... 'Kimson Queen' usually does not revert back to all green, so I'm betting it's just not showing up in the photos. 'KQ' is the Hoya that got me hooked 38 years ago!

Our closest W'mart super center has really nice h'plants at great prices. Time to go shopping, again!

Lowe's currently has Fishtail in 8" pots, but I already have one. I was hoping to find variegated Hindu Rope, no luck, but locally owned garden center had gorgeous green ones about 30" long, ready to bloom, priced around $30.00.

Ok...thanks...last year was the first time mine bloomed. I just thought I had a succulent...had no idea it was a Hoya until a friend gave me the Hoya Longifolia and I found this site..and saw the pics of the Carnosa..I am so excited...when it bloomed, I thought some plastic flowers had blown over to my place and landed by my plant...I was so excited to see that they were real...but had no idea what I had. Thank you all so much. this is very exciting.

You can train it or let it hang; it will grow either way. I have my carnosas trellised.

And followed by putting in water afterwards or maybe should I put it back in the soil potted? you can actually dunk without taking them out of soil, since taking out of soil usually can damage some roots. what I do in such cases: stuff paper napkin on the surface of soil around stems to prevent it from washing out. you can also tie up a piece of plastic around the pot and tie it up around stems over the paper-napkin to hold it in place. then you can gently lay the plant with the pot on the side in the sink in water and let it soak for 30min. then drain the water (not lifting the plant, the water will drain out of the soil slowly. then you can stand it up safely and unwrap. that will hydrate the leaves sufficiently. it creates some debris, but it's minimal. tenting it in plastic should help and is easier. but leaves won't rehydrate completely.

No, don't transfer it to clay, I think these prefer plastic (in my experience w/ them). I'd wait 'til they're very dry as you suggested. I think 'not liking their roots disturbed' is a bit of a myth; when it's necessary, one does it. I didn't reveal it to you before, but I am a Hoya collector here & we also have a Hoya forum nearby, where you can post Hoya questions in the future. https://www.gardenweb.com/discussions/hoya I bought this KP mid-June, it's too big for my home (a 9" diameter pot), but very healthy & was a Pandemic present to myself. Tho' I took some cuttings for the future, it has started to settle in as it's begun sprouting lots of new growth from its tips (just as Popmama suggested above). Patience pls MJ, the plants need that too, as they work on plant time, not people time. But you're off to a good start. When your plant grows more, you can take several cuttings for the future, just in case. Many of us do that as future insurance, in case we lose the plants, which does happen, even to experienced growers; especially w/ Exotic Angel (EA) plants, of which this is one.

yes, denise.

The edges have a small amount of white around them. Im not actually positive that it is krimson queen anyway. The tag just says "hoya carnosa", so it may be queen variety.

'Krimson Queen' is the old trade name. They go by other names now, depending on where you get it from. This would technically be Hoya carnosa variegata or albomarginata, I believe. I've seen it listed as tricolor. 'Krimson Princess' might be something like Hoya carnosa reverse variegata, but I've seen it as rubra, but the true rubra is not variegated at all. It all gets very confusing, which is why I continue to use the old trade names. Everyone seems to know that the one with cream edges and green in the middle (and the occasional all white vine) is 'Krimson Queen' and the one with cream centers and green edges is 'Krimson Princess'...
