Hoya names will drive you up a wall. I think that kentiana is synonomous with wayetti. At least that's been what my research tells me. On the Hawaiian vendor's site, she states that. On Ted Green's site, he only lists wayetti and not kentiana. Maybe your 2nd one is longifolia? I don't grow that one myself (yet) so I can't say for sure.

thanks Denise.... no, it is not longifolia since the flowers are not white.
Both must be different since the first one, I believe to be kentiana/wayetii has fleshier, stiffer leaves than the one which leaves are not dark rimmed.

I hope someone can tell you what the 2nd one is because I especially love the long-leaved Hoyas. I grow wayetti, shepherdii, shepherdell, minibelle, and am looking for longifolia and any other of that genre. I also recently acquired a Dischidia (a fasciated form of acuminata) with the same long, thin leaves, and have been growing Dischidiopsis paristica for awhile, whose leaves are much like H. shepherii but much more delicate. Another one to add to my list would be exciting!

You have to look at the flowers, the corona lobes specifically. The Acanthostemma section of the genus Hoya contains many species including Hoya kentiana and wayetii with many more that are in commerce that have not been identified. Hoya sp Haraku and several other Hoyas from islands that are part of Indonesia look very similar to your unidentified plant. It is very hard to put a name to an unidentified plant if you don't know where it was collected, you can't call a plant Hoya sp Haraku if it is not from Haraku. Do you know where your cutting originated from, who's collection anyways?

I'd be curious to see how they get photos like that. When you consider how miniscule a single flower on one of these species is, it must take a pretty fancy camera to take a photo that shows that much detail! But even with the great photo, unless you have very young eyes and 20/20 vision (which I never had, even when my eyes were young!), I don't think most of us are going to see those microscopic details. But I'm still convinced mine is wayetti. It is interesting to know that some of the experts assert that there are two distinctive species, though.

I went out and snapped some more pictures. Both are blooming now....

on the right is the EA plant I thought is the wayetii.
on left the no ID. I really do not think the two are the same?

Mike, thanks for the link to the close up pictures. I guess I could try to fiddle around and see how close I could get to my flowers.... and the girl that swapped this cutting told me it is a NOID.

Hoya ID is driving me crazy ;)

The plant on the right (the EA hoya) is H. wayetii. I think the one on the left is H. kentiana. You can tell the difference from the pedicels. H. wayetii has green pedicels, and H. kentiana has pinkish pedicels.

I posted some info about this with pictures a while back...let me see if I can find it.

thanks Gabi and everyone... I re-read the older thread, this time more carefully. As you said then, the wayetti's flowers are bigger than the kentiana and the pedicel colors show the difference as well.
So I will label those two as kentiana and wayetti

Evelyn, Your hoyas are very pretty...I have one that looks exactly like your EA and when I bought it(EA also), the label says Hoya Kentiana, the leaves are identical to yours with the dark edges grown in bright light. I was told that this is Wayetti, but I'm not really sure exactly what the correct name is also. I've never seen your hoya NOID before, the leaves remind be a little of pubicalyx but the flowers resemble Kentiana? Very pretty though!

puglvr, yes, this is the wayetii. After HOURS of research (incl. all kinds of German Hoya sites) there is no doubt that the EA plant is (as usual) mislabeled.
Mine has the dark rimmed leaves in very low light situation so I don't think it is a light issue.
