Where to buy Hostas in Houston/Woodlands area?

Does anyone know of a hosta nursery or hosta sales in the Houston, TX area or even East Texas?

My question for you would be WHY are you looking for hostas in houston?

Hosta are notorious for scorching in the TX heat. At best, you would HAVE to have full sun.
And if it doesn't get cold enough for long enough, they will not have the required dormancy necessary for hosta.

I'm no expert. I have some plants I've had for years and recently decided I wanted more of them. I don't even know the names of the ones I have, except the recent purchases. I can only tell you my experience.

I'm in Dallas. We are definitely cooler here, as get a few freezes every winter. I grow mine in plastic pots. They get more cooling that way. Also, I put the pots on "pot feet", so I don't have a problem with slugs. They don't look too great here by August. That may be because, by then, I'm tired of watering every day. You won't have that problem. You get rain in the summer.

It's worth a try. I love mine and the bonus is that they come back every year and are beautiful even though I neglect them. Choose easy to grow varieties, usually one that has been a past "hosta of the year", I understand.

Regarding where to get them, try one of the independent nurseries. Northhaven has them here. It's the best nursery in Dallas. They kind of pioneered them here. I suggest you try the best nursery in Houston. If not, try a mail order nursery. There are several that are reputable. Just read some posts about growers. I just bought some that way and they were exactly as I expected.

O Although I no longer live in Houston, I still go back and shop at some of the nurseries. Some of my favorites are: Buchanan's Native Plants Houston's largest and the Heights' favorite garden center devoted to Texas native plants and organic gardening. MAAS Nursery located in Seabrook, Texas just SE of Houston. They had a huge selection of great plants. And I used to go to Teas Nursery in Bellaire, but they are no closed. It's so sad because they have been around for a long, long time. Teas Nursery Company traces its history to 1843. Good luck!

Keep it warm, keep it humid, keep it composted, but... If you're growing bananas in the greater houston area primarily in hopes of the fruit, and not primarily because you love the looks of the plant, then you're spending a lot of time and energy getting relatively little output. Using similar real-estate and effort you could get a lot more fruit from other plants. Check out this web page for some of the best choices. Best of luck with the Bananas though! Speaking of hydrangeas :)- I moved to The Woodlands 6 years ago, previously lived in Nashville and up in Connecticut. Slowly but surely, I've been learning how to garden in this area. I've primarily stuck to container gardening so far, because everything I've ever put in the ground here seems to die a miserable death (aside from a blue plumbago). I have a lacecap hydrangea that I've had in a large pot since last May. I trimmed it back after blooming, and put it in a shady spot for the summer with a bit of morning sun. It has very healthy, green leaves, and is sprouting new ones like crazy :) I need to know what to do next so that I can hopefully get blooms in the spring/early summer 2012. I want to keep it in the pot so we can enjoy it on our deck. Here's what I need to know; 1) Fertilize now? 2) Top dress with potting soil, peat moss, etc. now? 3) Keep moist or on the dry-side for the winter? 4) Will I need to move it indoors when/if we end up getting consistently cold and wet days this winter? 5) What is the best light for it indoors? 6) Does it need a dormant period to produce blooms in the spring/summer? Any and all suggestions are much appreciated!!!! Thanks!!

Goggle Miele Factory service Houston. I did and this one appears to be pretty good. http://www.uptownappliancerepair.com/ But check for your self, find a company in Houston that does Miele WArranty work, or even call Miele and ask who does the Mlele Warranty work in Houston, and then BE SURE to check them out using Yelp, Yellow pages or Angies Reviews. I had a problem with my JA Fridge, called JA they gave me 3 companies. 2 of the 3 companies had "Horrific Reviews", but the 3rd checked out and they were great, had I used either of the other 2, I would probably be cussing my JA Fridge. 3rd company found the problem immediately, the charge was reasonable and the fridge has worked great ever since, (about 2 year ago now). I live in East Texas and have about 75 beautiful hosta. Mine grow well and love my rich composted soil so I don't see why she can't grow them in Houston. With LOTS of water and good shade I'd think they would be OK. Probably not as large as those grown up North but it's worth a try.
May I suggest mail order from a reputable company so you don't take a chance on getting some with a virus!
