Pop Bottle Pots!!

Hi everyone!

I have discovered a cheap new way to grow the tiny grower Hoya's and to root all others...pop bottle pots! These are on the order of AV self watering pots but you use your empty 2 liter pop bottles. Instead of throwing away the pop bottles or putting in recycle bins wash them out and recycle them yourself!

So far I have tried the following Hoya's in these pots to root with great success: carnosa silver variegated, engleriana, microphylla and solaniflora. The tiny growers listed the PB pots will be their permanent pots. All the listed Hoya's have new growth now and are rooted. Rooting happened quickly. I think because the initial first watering I used VF-11 water. Plus it's summer and prime rooting weather outside in Oklahoma.

The pots have a reservoir to keep moisture even and consistent. Be sure to in the bottle spout neck to compact the soil very tightly so the water is drawn up. Initially after making the pot I water the soil from the top after adding the cuttings but after that I only add water to the reservoir.

These are great for hot weather (no drying out if resevoir has water) and for vacation time. I have tried it so far for 5 days being away and I came back to soil still moist with summer temps outside.

I make my water holes just above the spout about an inch up the curve of the bottle. This way the wettest soil won't be near the roots.

Try one and see if you will love them too!,,,Debbie
