Ihave Nonamé Zone 9B, NorCal..but I would like a plant I could recommend/give to family in Oregon/Washington. ------------------------------------------------ I am in WA, ~ 150 miles north of OR. For OR, WA I will recommend "Willamette" . It is a saladette size bred by OSU. I grew it last year . and am growing it again. It is prolific and taste was good too. I am also growing : Oregon Spring, Siletz, and Legend. All bred by OSU for PNW. Black Krim and Brandywine did not do well for me. Sey

I haven't grown it, so I don't know if it counts, but Mermaid, that most beautiful yet vicious of single roses, does it for me. A massive specimen grows over the big sheds at Ross Roses, untended and magnificent, tangled together with a grapevine and surviving when almost everything else died off in the 10 year drought. Whenever I went there I'd slip round the back away from the display garden just to stand and gaze in awe at her great moonglow saucer blooms with their golden coronets of stamens that remain in beauty after the petals fall. Continuous, though not especially generous in bloom, and not for the faint-hearted. Of the few roses I've actually grown myself, Mme Alfred Carriere was my great love, always catching my eye and taking my breath away, especially in her spectacularly gorgeous main mid-winter flush. Dreamy fragrance, the relaxed grace and subtlest blush of palest 'flesh' pink in the centre of her nodding blooms, her perfect health, and the continuity and sheer generosity of bloom throughout the year with little or no care all made her a wonderful garden friend. She also did well for my sister in deepest, darkest, cold and rainy Wales in the UK, growing up the front wall of her high-gabled two storey black and white cottage. Comtesse :-)

DebbieOn , after collecting spidery varieties and UF's for years , I am only recently adding bagel varieties so am really interested to hear what others have to say about the bagel varieties that they grow . Wispy Rays and Black Falcon Ritual I think are both considered UF's but price has always been a big factor in my purchases and the price of them was higher than I could afford /was willing to pay at the time . The price is coming down so now I can consider purchasing these ones. I only ever paid big bucks for three daylilies . Two are still here but I cant say I am impressed with the plant performance of either of them . One is Reckamp/Klehms Angel's Smile and the other one is Genesta . The third is or should I say was Mapping Carolina . I absolutely loved the look of that daylily but it has gone the way of the dodo bird. It just withered away . So I have promised myself that I will never pay a high price for a daylily again . It is just too shocking to the pocketbook when a really expensive daylily dies or just barely hangs on . I can wait till the price for a plant is reasonable . The suggestion of Shores of Time and the fact that it does well is good to know ,I really appreciate that kind of info . I do grow Whatley's Butter Cream here and Solar Music is a yellow Whatley daylily that is similar. I love the look but I have not added it here ........yet. Assuming I can find it for a decent price in the future I would love to add it, as, if it does as well as Butter Cream has done here I would be very happy to include it in my gardens , I love the very flat face of Solar Music! For now I am happy with Butter Cream ...... a robust lovely yellow daylily although I like the height that Solar Musc is registered to be even better than the height of Butter Cream . I will have to do some research on Dena Marie's Sister but good to know it is a robust plant

I've never grown Guirlande de Amour, but going by HMF, it's half the potential size of MAC. Do you want it to reach the railing and then grow along it, or just get that tall and no more? If you intend for your rose to grow horizontally at the balcony level, then MAC is the way to go. Mine was easily 25' tall in a red cedar tree before the Polar Vortex several years ago. I lost it when the temps hit -10F. It was healthy, not spotless, but nearly so, and I never, ever sprayed it (ever tried spraying something 25 feet over your head? I don't recommend it, lol). MAC doesn't mind a little shade, so should do quite well until it can reach full sun. MAC also has an interesting scent. I've never been quite able to describe it. It's pleasant, not overpowering. I read somewhere it has hints of elder flower?? GdA looks like a lovely rose, and being a musk hybrid probably smells wonderful. And HMF says it's "very disease resistant". But I can speak of MAC from experience, and it was a good one. She's a classic for a reason. Edit: I forgot to say...you mentioned Veilchenblau. I know it only blooms once, but it's totally healthy for me, and that purple would be gorgeous against the white walls! Plant it at one end, and MAC at the other, lol. Boom! Best of both worlds.
