What the heck!?! Check out my succulent plant!
Comments (10)Demolition you have a beautiful view, where do you live? Aeoniums put on a great show! The flowers are beautiful and last a good amount of time so you can enjoy it. I also like the rest of your succulents. I'm a sempervivum aka hens and chicks collector myself. It's in the same family as Aeoniums and also die after it blooms, but not before they put out pups....See MoreI have Curly Fries now!!
Comments (5)Sorry I dropped out of sight! I've taken pictures but I have to wait until I have a cd worth to be able to post them. I dont like spending $3 on a half picture cd. It looks good. The others are looking good too. I'm going to stop by another local nursery over the weekend and see if anything catches my eye. I'm glad Curly Fries does well in pots. I am thinking the smaller, the better, as far as pots are concerned? But, my 1st Albomarginata did very well for a long time. It still makes me sad that I lost it. :( Anyway, wish me luck this weekend!...See MoreNot sure what the heck is happening to my azalea.
Comments (4)This makes perfect sense. The plant was likely very susceptible during that drought, and that killed the first branch. The continued summer stress likely allowed it to take out the second. I suppose the one thing that would make me think it's not this is that the branches, even the one that lost its leaves in their entirety, seems to still be green if you scratch it with your nail. I would have expected the branch itself to be dead as well. Is it worth leaving the branch on to see if it will come back or should I just assume the branch is in its last days and remove it before the disease can spread.? Hate to lose half the plant, but you have to do what you have to do....See MoreHVX on Curly Fries?
Comments (14)Pretty Birds, agreed - it is a possibility anywhere. However, one would think that a vendor that specializes in hostas would be more likely to notice obvious signs of HVX and be rid of the plants. Certainly avoid sending them out to customers. I would consider 2 different approaches when I pointed out diseased plants to 2 of my favorite local nurseries. At the first nursery, the manager picked up the plant I pointed out (from a full tray of Majorly Obviously Infected Striptease plants) and headed for the trash. I called after her that there more - she should check the rest of the plants. She replied that she didn't have time to check over all the hostas. I probably won't be shopping there much more for plants of any variety. Although they do have reasonably priced rocks... The second nursery, I mentioned at the checkout counter that I saw a tray of gold standard that looked concerning. The cashier said she would let the manager know. The next time I visited, the whole tray was gone, and obviously many other hostas had been culled. I would feel much better about buying from that nursery in the future. And I get that sometimes things can look like HVX that aren't actually HVX. And I get that nurseries probably get tired of people who point out "diseased" plants that are really perfectly fine. And I know that I'm a newbie. But these were classically symptomatic - much clearer than my curly fries above. Anyhow. Just kind of rambling now......See More- 11 years ago
