I am starting a new thread on my blooms this summer. I have forgotten where I left off though....Ellie

The one below is Dark And Handsome. I didn't realize it didn't have a label...

Thanks so much for posting your blooms! I was so hoping to see some pictures this morning. I don't have any of these, Dark & Handsome really is handsome.

Jill...you must have been posting at the same time I was, I missed you, sorry! :) Glad you enjoyed my dl's. Tammy...I'm sorry, I failed to answer your question about my camera. It's a Fuji Finepix S700. The macro and super macro capabilities are wonderful as is the 10x optical zoom. It really lets you get up close and personal with your blooms. LOL Shelly....I totally understand, my list just keep growing and growing and growing..kind of like that Energizer bunny, you know? :) I've had MM for a couple of years now, and it's really struttin it's stuff this season. FT is brand new and that was the FFO on it. It's one of my brightest dl's. Chris....You're gonna love AS, it's one of my favs, but then I've got so many fav's!! Kay, she wants to come to your house along with Susan Weber if you don't have her yet. I know you mentioned, back last winter that you liked her so I was planning on sending SW with AG.. this spring, I hope... okbt, MM is a very good dl but I have to tell you that she was darker this year than any years since I first got her. All of my deep colors were very dark this year as you will see as I post them. Some were almost black. I think the weather may have had something to do with that. MM is very dark though and faithful as can be. Always blooms well no matter what. She would be great to have in any garden, if you like the dark velvety ones...Ellie

I was so surprised to see this thread up in the front again. Christine TP performs like a climber with octupus canes from every angle. Summer gone I had to tie it up to the fence. It grew over 7 feet. It is one rose that I done pay much attention to. It is disease resistance, repeat bloom quickly, very floriferous with large cluster of blooms. The color varies according to the climate, it fades quickly in hot sun but in cooler conditions the whole flower is a good ripe yellow at first. It fades from the edges inward, then to lemon and cream, but always with beautiful contrasts between the pale outer petals and the bright inner ones. The plant is strong and robust, growing vigorously, with few large thorns, bright green leaves and strong upright stems. Deadheading helps it to rebloom continiously through to fall. Niecey

Hello, jillkins. Yes, in Zones 4 and 5, ES is known in the forum for having blooming reliability issues.... not everyone though... for some people. They are described as being root hardy only in posts. They did ok for me until I killed the one by accident. The way these re-bloomers work: like all mopheads in the north, these hydrangeas develop invisible flower buds in very late Summer or early Fall; these then open in the Spring if winter does not kill the stems; you can prune the stems down if the stems do not leaf out by the end of May; keep any live stems if you winter protect the plants and the stems survive winter; the new growth that comes up in Spring is supposed to also to produce flower buds & bloom, provided the new stems get tall and old enough. That normally occurs in mid to late Summer. Soon after the flower buds develop, the buds open and go thru the broccoli phase and bloom. Now, anything that can interfere with that process can throw a monkey wrench into the "system". The weather (early winter, dry weather, etc), pruning, allowing the soil to go dry in the Summer, etc .... all those things can cause a problem or prevent the plant stems from getting tall or old enough to develop flower buds & bloom. The Let's Dance Series is another one that includes re-blooming hydrangeas but these are more compact so, I speculate, that their stems may get to the proper height and age faster and thus they may be more reliable re-bloomers in the Summer for you. If you want to try them out that is. Not sure if hydrangeas are out of stock for you locally but it is a suggestion. ;o) Other things to keep in mind in no special order: hydrangeas like uniform moisture in the Summer so try not to have dry soil (in the Summer) as this may trigger the shrub to kill flower buds and flowers; maintain 2-4" of mulch to reduce the need for lots of water and protect the roots from temperature extremes in winter and summer; fertilize only once in Spring, unless you live in the extreme South (too much fertilizing = too much nitrogen = green leaves = no or few blooms). Rule out deer, bunnies, squirrels as these all like to eat flower buds.

Betsy, I have to revise mine everytime I get on here!! Seems that everyone has some that I like. Lust of the eye , you know..I have gotta quit that. I have been good though and stayed of the LA for a week or two now....Ellie

Wonderful blooms, Ellie! I really enjoyed seeing them. For some reason, 'Solano Bulls Eye' really catches my fancy today. It looks really lemon-yellow, great contrast with that dark eye and green throat. Nice! I also like 'Maltese Falcon.' I'm going to have to dig out my "wish list" and start adding to it again.

Thanks for the pick-me-up, Ellie. I think my faves are David Kirchhoff and Peach Ripple.

You have some real beauties there Ellie.. I especially like PEACH RIPPLE, SLOW BURN and MALTESE FALCON.. just have them dug and ready for my midnight raid.. Nancy drew me a map to your house..lol

Ellie, do you have labels on all your dl's....cause I'm heading in your direction in the morning. DH and I will be spending a couple of days at cabin overlooking lake Guntersville....not too far from you I'm thinking.....might need to slip over to your place for a little visit.....LOL

wow, some more real beauties.I have injoyed looking at all of them.My favorite was Golden Wisdom.Its gorgeous.I really liked Slow Burn also.

Jan, I am going to be out of town for the next few days but would love to meet up with you sometime. Preferbably when the dls are in bloom..It is raining so hard right now, I fear they will float away. It has rained most of the day ( slow rain ) but has gotten reall heavy the last hour. I am not complaining, mind you!!BTW, If you are coming this way for color, you probably will be disappointed. At my house, most of the leaves have fallen. They went from green to brown mostly. A little color on the JM's is all we had..

Golden Wisdom is a gorgeous daylily Jean. I think it maybe my favorite cream. Such beautiful ruffles.. SB isn't a very large bloom but it has wonderful color..

gonegardening, there is more to post..I am trying to take it kind of slow so that I don't run out of pics. I think Chris is going to post some too and hopefully others will show us their pics. it is going to be a dreary winter and I hoped to keep us all going until spring..
