You Know You Are 'Addicted' to Growing Hoyas When........

....you see a peduncle on a never-bloomed-before plant, and you have to tell or phone someone immediately !

....you don't mind 'bug guts' on your fingers, from squashing insect pests, ( mealies and aphids ) !

note; I grow hoyas outdoors. This time of year, the aphids are a problem. This afternoon, my hands were actually yellow from squashing aphids.

....if you knock a leaf, or even if you take a cutting,

you make this strange analogy in your imagination, that the poor plant is 'bleeding'!

....when you have to shop at a 'Big Box' store, you hit the garden center first, with hope in your stride and keen eyes, ( just in case ) !

If you find a hoya, something happens to your memory, which can cause you to forget why you came to the " Big Box' store, in the first place !

Can anyone add to this list ? We don't know if Jeff Foxworthy has time for plant hobbies, so we'll have to rely on ourselves !! :)

... in spring, you hop out of bed first thing in the a.m., grab a cup of coffee and go peduncle/flower gazing.

... before you go to bed at night, you **sniff** around your Hoyas to see if any fragrances are wafting about.

... you have a Hoya website as your home page on your computer.

Every single plant spot and hanging place you can think of is full...but you are STILL making out hoya orders and wish lists. :-)

You know you're addicted when you MUST visit the Garden Junk forum at least once a day to see if anyone posted something new! You know you're addicted when at rummage sales or thrift stores, people give you odd looks when they see the assortment of weird stuff you buy. Us Kathys must think alike, I agree with concreteprimroses that you tend to look at anything and everything to figure out how you could repurpose it and how well it would hold up to the elements.

Way too funny! I found many, many things that apply to me lol! I especially like the one where you are driving down the road and almost crash into a tree because you are trying to see other peoples gardens! lolololol! That definitely describes me! I almost back ended someone while trying to turn my head 360 degrees to see someones garden! lol You know you are addicted to gardening when you sit outside at work during a break and think about what else needs to be done in the garden that day and week. And, yes my bathroom has lots of reading material of the gardening type! My hubby thinks I'm nuts!

When I first started seed saving, back in the 80s, I used to carry a couple colorful bean seeds in my pocket, a lot of the time. Whenever there was a "convenient" pause in a conversation I would often pull out one or two of those beans and start to explain about the varieties. My father-in-law concluded that I could "spin a yarn" over any bean seed at all! I have done the exact same thing with Jacobs Cattle, back around 1985. I remember being at grad school, one afternoon, and sitting on the side of a planter, waiting for a ride. I suddenly noticed that there was a hole in the vinca, planted there. So, I reached into my pocket and pulled out that Jacob's Cattle seed, poking it into the ground. It came up before the week was out. I only have three Hoyas, all falling over and entwined in each other. I inherited them from a dear friend when he died so I want to keep them forever. He loved his Hoyas. I thought they were OK until they bloomed now they are my favorite houseplant. The fragrance is intoxicating.
