Ken, explain your quick apology. I did a Google search for Everwood Farm and came up with a place in Brooks, Oregon that is selling the "Worm Factory". IF this is the same outfit, it is indeed an advertisement. IMHO If it isn't, it sure is a co-incidence in names.

I was originally attempting to respond to a thread regarding a Hosta Forum on Osmacote fertilizer.

Due to the fact that I had to register, and redo, etc., this got posted as a new listing. This was not my intention and not being a computer geek, I made a mistake.

We are a commercial Ag farm and have provided organic fertilizer to our local community for many years.

I am not a job shopper or what-ever. Yes, we do provide the Worm Factory when we have extra worms from our trout farm to provide with the kit. If you had taken a moment to review our web site  which was not referred to in my posting - you would have discovered that we are a family farm that works closely with our community.

You folks seem to have an absurd level of paranoia. Sorry I bothered to try to contribute my 45 years of farming experience into your close nit group. I will resign immediatly.

I don't think I am really off base here. The original post says to forget one product in favor of another that that person SELLS. We've heard nothing about what this has to do with hostas, even though organic usually wins in my book. Your 45 years of farming experience (my home gardening experience years are about the same) is probably very useful, but how does this relate to HOSTAs?

...and we're not really very close knit here, and we disagree sometimes too, but we don't usually take all our marbles and go home...

I don't think we need any advice from someone who can't even spell Osmocote.

I use it a lot and most of my hostas are six feet tall.

everyone is welcome ... to debate an issue ... which i plastered him for .. which wasnt very friendly of me ...

whether he owns a biz or not is irrelevant ... the only GW rule being that he cant use GWeb to sell ... or advertise.. which is selling ...

i like to try to fix things .. when i make a fool of myself ...

Dave, I would love to hear what you have to say. I hope you will stick around.
Some gardeners confuse their gardening experience with others' growing experience.
It's like saying yourself a chef because you cooked dinner. Or calling yourself a writer, because you wrote a letter. The skill set is different.
So, I for one think there is a lot you can tell us about hosta. About fertilizer. And about many other issues regarding growing.
I will believe the strict rules of the hosta or any other garden web forum which prohibit advertising once I stop seeing so many posts recommending Walmart, Lowes and other big box stores, that appear magically, just like the birds, in time for spring. Is it not advertising when it's a big box store?
So, welcome to the hosta forums Dave. Because I'm a member too, and I happened to think your post was interesting. And I'd like to know what else you have to say.
And nowhere on your post did it ask readers to buy a Worm Factory from you.

Please share your experiences of growing hostas with us, using organic compost. I see that Everwood Farm breeds horses and sells a number of composting products. Do you also grow any hostas?

Just last week, some one asked a question about buying hosta from E bay,there was one poster in particular,that posed two or three times, that he sold The Best Hosta on e bay, then proceeded to give his e bay name,that,is advertising,to me.No one jumped down his throat,which would have been the thing to do at the time.
I have a worm farm, and love it,many discussions have been here on this topic,any time we can use organic,instead of harmful chemicals,is A-OK, in my book.
Is the weather making some crancky?
Dave seemed like a nice guy,wanting to be helpful,i hope we do not get the reputation on this forum,that others have,every one here is so nice and friedly,lets keep it that way ok.
Oh,and correcting someones spelling, has nothing to do with hosta either.

helping us understand the value of organic gardening! I'm all ears and have been ever since others with
your interest have posted very valuable info. that I have benefited from, as well.

Any one of us can be cranky on a given day, but we're also a really great group, and when you get to
understand our individual quirks, you'll find this forum a great place to hang out! Generally, speaking
most of us are very forgiving, too--not that you have anything to be forgiven of by us, but
we squabble and come back and try it again!! Hope you will, too!!

I also in very interested in hearing more from you Dave. I use worm castings and worm tea as my only means of fertilizing my garden beds. The prison in my area is right by a landfill, and they have the prisoners run a worm farm and sell castings. As part of a science fair, one of the students at my school grew a plant in soil with worm castings and one in soil without, and the plant with worm castings was twice as big by the time we did the science fair.
