Mine have done well where they are in contact with the bark/moss but the trailing stems that develop tend to eventually die back even though I water at least once a day. Each time I would go away I would return to find a dried stem or two. I am thinking of mounting a Phalaenopsis celebensis along with the Hoya curtsii because they have similar leaf markings and that way the Hoya can do what it wants and if it does not do terribly well the orchid will be there to fill in the mount and look beautiful. My mounted Hoya loheri is doing well but I had to add more moss to the back of the mount to try to keep it wet longer because the plant seems to want more moisture now that it has grown larger.
I grow mounted orchids but they are usually able to withstand more drying and the ones that can't are growing in my orchid case along with my Hoya imbricatas and Dischidia imbricata. I don't think I will try any other mounted Hoyas because they are too sensitive to drying because of their fine roots and I already have too many plants that need daily watering.

I recommend that you start another thread when you have a question that doesn't relate to the topic being discussed. You have a better chance of getting your question seen and answered. You can do this on the main page of the hoya forum. But to answer your question, I tend to use Bayer Rose and Flower insect killer, as it seems to be readily available and works pretty well. There are other options, but I haven't tried them. Perhaps someone else knows more about them?

To Mike: Curtisii still seems to be doing well mounted. However, it sits in a quarter inch to a half inch of water almost constantly, and the sphagnum moss wicks it up. So it stays pretty damp all the time. It really seems to like this though. If you have a bit you want to experiment with, give that a try, and see if it does well also. I can't say how I think it will do long term, as I'm just figuring it out as I go along, but I've been treating it this way for months now, and it is growing at a faster rate than my potted curtisii.

I hope you know what insect(s) you've got before you use a systemic. You didn't say which kind & there are different systemics for different insects.

For instance, just this week I finally used the systemic I have (called Marathon, no longer legal to sell for private use in NY state). I applied it specifically to counter a small case of mealy bugs which I can't afford to have spread through my collection.

I also isolated the plant so that other plants wouldn't catch the bug. If containered, you may wish to isolate your plant as well.

Quinn I planted a tiny little piece of Hoya kanyakumariana in my killifish vivarium and it has similar conditions to what you described. That little cutting has more than doubled in a months time so I think you are on to something. I may try a piece of Hoya curtisii in the same vivarium to try and add some more plant life near the wet wall. There was a beautiful area covered in live moss but some ugly black algae has been smothering it and I don't really no how to control it's growth.
