Illinois Hosta Lovers

There seem to be a lot of Illinois people who post on the Hosta Forum.

Papou's list of where some of you live was made a while ago and is wonderful, as I have used it myself to see where IL. forum members are from.

I don't have the "know how" to make a new list of just Illinois Hosta Forum members but I know there are quite a few of you who post now and aren't on his list, myself included.

Papou, are you interested in adding more names to your existing list?

Is there someone who could step up and undertake making one for just Illionoians?

Am I asking for something which is of no importance to you? Is it too much trouble to do? And last but not least is it none of my business!?!?!

I would appreciate feedback,if possible from anyone, especially Illionoins.

I am a member of the Illinois Prairie Hosta society, and the A. H. S. I think both of them have membership directories that have names and adresses in them. I am from Effingham.It is in south central Illinois where interstate 70 and interstate 57 merge for three miles.Where are you located?

Hey, Con - I just noticed this thread - I'd be happy to 'take it on'. I believe you are asking for everyone who posts here and not necessarily any society member. I'll start a thread. I'm afraid if Papou takes on Illinois, every state in the union will want their own from him!

Columbine Hybrids (3 month bloom time) Interrupted Fern Montana Centralia (sp) Bleeding Heart Violets, found in lawns everywhere! Wintergreen (edible) Mints, (they grow in shade and are less invasive that way) Sweet Woodruff mounding geraniums (perriennial, pink) Ghost Ferns (look like japanese painted but huge) Varigated iris German Iris I planted Roses with mine too...in deep shade, Someone in the rose forum has just screamed! WHOOPS! anyway it works for me. They're blooming, the Ghost Fern and Varigated Iris are in with my giant hosta's and hold their own structure-wise. I use the chartruse sedum and sweet woodruff as fillers, violets and columbine too. Go figure! My girlfriend keeps actually reading the sun requirements on plants she purchases, I just slap them in where I have a hole in the planting and things either work out or get moved. Lungworts! I almost forgot! Good Luck with the Hosta congo line you have!

Thank you, I went to the link then clicked on Green "It Ain't easy".........oh so many I have to have. Can not even begin to list them in a particular order. Love the greens, chartreuse, olives, brown what have you. So many beautiful sdb seedling I want when they get introduced. Thank you for the link. Now I have even more iris to add to my have to have list. My favorite color choices. Now we need to find turquoise colored, go figure.

It's probably a decal that they make to put on vehicles--somehow pictures are taken and put on a "decal" like surface that adheres to cars, vans, buses. Never seen one that wasn't an advertisement for a company or a product. This one is really different!

It sounds like a good idea! I don't remember seeing papou's post and couldn't find it searching old posts, so I wasn't sure exactly what is was about.

I'll join the list when it's ready.

Will any of you Illinois hosta folks be going to a "meeting" on Sunday April 22nd? My partner in hosta crime is presenting on "hosta in the landscape" and I'm going along for the ride. Maybe our paths will cross on Sunday. Later, Love, Lisa

Our IPHS meeting will be in Champaign on Saturday, April 28 at 9 AM. Garden tour and speaker on new plants and containers.

Hi Connie,
Maybe posting a subject directly to Papou will get his attention to incooperate new people that are not on the map.

Maybe : Papou Add Ons to Hosta Map Wanted.

He may have not even read this post because it was for IL.
Just a thought.

Westy said she has the capibility to undertake something like this so I kind of left it in her hands.

My skills at the computer are nill so when she said yea I junped at putting in someone elses hands.

Yup, I'm reading this, Con. I wonder if we might want to do what Hostared is suggesting if only because I don't want to 'overstep' Papou. He is the whiz of the collective map and I wonder if it wouldn't be a piece of cake for him to simply break out the states? In fact, I thought he did that. If we're talking about only US - (Forum Gang) - we could extrapolate from his work or he could take it on simply. On the other hand, if we want all of the Illinois Hostaholics, we have the societies' lists. I wish we could ferret out everyone who is one of us but doesn't know we exist!!! When I talk up GW with pals at Morton Arboretum (taking classes there) they look at me funny - never heard of GW! They're SO lost.

Connie - do you want to email Papou and forward your message or should we just start a thread for Illinois people only?

AHS has nearly 300 members in Illinois besides all the local and regional societies. The GW group is miniscule by proportion. Papou pinpointed our locations by zip code and divided the maps into regions. There's a starter program or website, it used to be in my Favorites, now gone. It's fun to see where everyone lives.

What I'm interested in is finding hosta people closer to me who are on "my level". I just want to personally share gardening experiences with them face to face once in a while. I already have found one neat friend but she is 70 miles away and to find a time that is good for both of us is not easy.

Don't get me wrong all the forum people are wonderfully helpful but as I am such a slow typist. I can talk so much faster than write if you know what I mean!?!? Meeting others in person is so much fun.

LOL, Connie. I met a forum friend once and she was such a fast talker, I couldn't get a word in edgewise, and I couldn't delete her either. :( My computer I can turn off when I feel like it. :)

I would like to know if there is anyone nearby too.

I often would like a "pal" to go hosta hunting with, attend meetings, etc., whatever.

JMO, but some things are more enjoyable if shared with someone else with the same interest.

It would be interesting too, just to see where we all are located here in Illinois!

Only on the internet, Connie. Luckily she lives in another state.

Other internet buddies I've done road trips or day trips with are mostly as I thought they would be. Exception: One other gal who was very chatty and sassy on the forum, was very shy and quiet at a group hosta get-together, so you never know.
