I know zero about aeroponics, but I do know that with hydroponics the root system is different than in soil-based growing and there is an adjustment the plants must make to the change in culture. So I suspect your plant is just making an adjustment. In my experience, I rarely get more than one or two flowers off a peduncle on a multiflora - it's one of hose that drops the peduncles and makes new ones. Hope someone can be more helpful. Hi Karam, Well I've never had this situation w/ Hoyas, but have seen it w/ other plants I've tended for other people (like neglected office plants) or inherited from friends. I'm a believer that compacted soil is death to a plant, sooner or later. I also don't swear to this business of Hoyas not liking their roots disturbed. If it's compacted, I'd say disturbing its roots is necessary (that's the problem). I'll offer you two options, you'll pls. decide which feels more comfortable to you. If it were mine, I'd be radical abt it. I'd soak & soak & soak this rootball (out of the pot, in a basin of some kind) 'til it's soft enough to break apart w/ yr. fingers. Then I'd gently remove all of this evil mix completely, examine the remaining roots, cutting off any that are dry & shriveled up or that might smell bad. Then I'd change the mix completely, using something 'houseplanty' like maybe what you use for yr. Swedish Ivy, w/ added perlite (or pumice if you can get it), abt 30% by volume. That is to say roughly 1 part perlite to 2or 3 parts soil. This will help the mix be both fast draining & stay loose. (I suspect it was a heavily peat-based mix that allowed it to harden so badly.) If you feel this is too radical, here's a variation, less extreme, but should yield similar results. I HAVE NOT TRIED THIS ON HOYAS, but have w/ other Houseplants, w/ good results. Take the plant out of the pot after a good soak, having somewhat softened the hard rootball. Take a sharp & sterile knife & carefully cut vertical slits in the rootball, from top of mix, down the height of the rootball to its bottom. Do this 2-3" apart all around the entire rootball. The when done cutting, using yr. thumbs, gently spread open these slits abt a 1/2". I would also cut maybe a 1" slice off the bottom of the rootball, as if you're slicing a slice of bread, slice it off completely & discard this slice. Both the vertical slits & the slice off the bottom will help expose the more inner parts of the rootball to fresh mix, air & water (they need all 3 components to thrive). After either procedure, I'd wait 3-4 days & then water it well. Then I'd wait at least a month before fertilizing it. This should be a good amount of time to let the plant settle down & adjust to these changes, & I'd hope you'll see lots of new, better quality growth. Pls. report back as to which procedure you try & what your results turn out to be. Either way, I believe this is bound to help the plant; it's survived this way so long (w/ its roots barely getting any air & water deep inside the rootball). Best of luck w/ it & hope it helps a lot. Sorry to be so long, but wanted to explain it as well as I could.

My oldest EA plants are at least 8 or 9 years old (wayetti & lacunosa) and are still in the original mix, for the most part. I've added my own mix as a top dressing. I don't particulary like the EA mix, but as many of you have observed, the EA plants are so big, rootbound, etc., they're almost impossible to repot. And when I have repotted them, it seems like they often go into decline. So I just have a watering method for EA plants that differs from the others. My favorite mix is very simple - about 2/3 coir and 1/3 perlite. It wets easily, drains fast, dries fast. I've used this mix for at least 10 years and it works perfectly for the way I typically water Hoyas, which is to water and let it get almost dry before I re-water. With EA Hoyas, I let them get dry, then I water, set aside for about 1/2 hour, then water again, drain off and return to their location. They don't soak up the water as well as my regular mix, so the 2nd watering gets into all those nooks and crannies the first watering missed when it drained straight through. However, I will say that I just repotted my 8 or 9 year old lacunosa from a 6" EA pot into an 8" pot. It's done very well for many years, but this winter, I've had a lot of stems go yellow and it just doesn't seem that happy anymore. The tough thing about EA plants is that crazy root system! They must use some pretty great rooting hormones to produce such a strong system out of the mass of cuttings they put in every pot! I simply took the rootball, made some shallow cuts in the rootball (to hopefully stimulate some new growth), set it in the bigger pot and filled in around the old EA soil. I'm hoping this will do the trick, because I think to try to remove the old EA soil from the rootball will destroy the plant. Denise in Omaha

I leave roots undisturbed unless a heavy soil was used by seller. In that case, I remove as much soil as possible by hand and then soak the plant dor 15 minutes in tepid water. After 15 minutes, I remove the plant and gently rinse it all in tepid water to remove any loosened dirt from leaves, roots and stems. After that rinse, I repot in my mix. If it is a small plant, I place it between my first and second fingers (like scissors), hang it between my fingers upside down, cupping its roots in my palm. I add 1/2 inch of mix to the pot, and turn my hand holding the plant over, placing it in the pot. I keep my hand on the plant as I am adding more mix, pushing the plant gently from side to side while adding the media. Once the plant is mostly "settled" in the new pot, I tap the bottom of the pot firmly, but not too hard, against the table and then shake it a little bit. I then add more mix if needed. It is important, if you use my method, to make sure each ingredient in your mix is roughly the same size (eg. 1/4 inch perlite should be mixed with 1/4 inch orchid bark). This way, smaller particles won't settle at the bottom and impede drainage. I really don't worry about spreading the roots. All you really need to do is loosen them from the old mix. If the mix was waterlogged or a very heavy soil was used, best bet would be just to take cuttings, as I have found roots grown in thick, poorly draining soil, are feathery, fine, and very susceptible to shredding, breakage, and rot. That is just my experience. For large plants, I just soak the plant, pot and all for 15-20 minutes in tepid water. It helps the plant come out of the pot. Then I repot into a different pot. I don't even loosen the mix (only because my larger hoyas have been in my mix only, so I know what the rootball is "hiding") UNLESS the roots appear sickly. Then I make cuttings.
