I haven't used the search feature for a while so don't know about it. I've learned so much from the forum and need to learn a lot more. lol

All the windows are open here and a wonderful breeze is coming in. A walk around the garden is due, both to check on my hostas and to enjoy the spring flowers. The ground is damp here from rain the last few days so can't do cleanup. I'm only half done.

This nice weather is not going to last and there was or is a chance for hail with incoming storms. Hope they are wrong. I need to check the latest weather report.

Enjoy what we have and hope for it to continue. Come back more often and post pictures of your wonderful hostas!!!

Nice! They keep promising a warm up here in the North East, however I keep scraping frost of my car window every morning and we're lucky if the high is the low 40s.

I agree with you, the advertising can be a bit of a distraction, however I have gotten used to it.

Robyn, my complaint is that in doing a *search*, at the bottom of the main hosta page, in the search window
it would NOT take me to any discussions on the topic I put in, but it took me only to a page with links that were
advertising links--probably their sponsors. I don't know but I HOPE they have not done away with a way to access
discussions we've had in the past. :^(

I just tried the search forum and it worked fine for me; just some advertising along the right border.

WE're still 100% snow covered, however it will probably be gone by the end of the week as we're expecting warm tempertures and rain. Time to put away the snowshoes.

It has been a while since I have tried the search, however I just checked it out and see what you mean Janice. I tried three different subjects and the search returned advertisements all three times...

The last of our snow melted this week and if I look closely at a few of the Early Bird hostas, there are some pips under their leaf blankets. But since our average date of last frost is still a month away, I'd like for them to stay asleep for a bit longer. We had a Frost on Mothers Day Eve last year that left my hostas a little frost burnt.

I do, however, have some bulbs that are up 8-10"!!

As for advertising, I use Mozilla Firefox browser with AdBlock and now I get very few of the ads. LOVE IT!

A month ago I tried to get access to old posts, it seemed then that the Search function only accessed posts which were less than one year old. Then I typed in exactly titles of less than 1 year old posts (I made copies in Word for my computer last year) and got unrelated posts. This search function certainly does not work well like Google.

Oh, and I am regularly bugged by the search feature in GW. So, now, I use google. Here's what you can type in to google to limit yourself to only gardenweb hosta forum. Let's say you were looking for posts about ammonia and slugs and hosta. In the google search box, type:

hosta slugs ammonia site:forums.gardenweb.com

This will search all gardenweb forums for a longer period of time. But you will be able to tell which ones were on the hosta forum by the URL at the bottom of each Google search listing.

Now this is really weird. I found a way to make the search work.

Type in your search...I did Remember Me. I got just the ads. Then I clicked on the Help button, then I clicked on my back arrow. Tah dah! There is a whole listing of the discussions on hosta Remember Me.

Try it and see if it works for you????

There must be different versions of anything around. I just typed into that Search function field "hosta slugs" at the top of this very posting, and I got a bunch of recent slug related postings below half a page of mostly not related text.

If you use the search box at the bottom of the Hosta Forum page you can select just this forum or all of garden web. If you use the search box at the top of the individual thread page I think it searches all of garden web. I'm going to try "hosta slugs" in both places to see...

Kimcoco- I don't get the ads. I have pop-ups blocked. Have you tried blocking pop-ups for this website?

janice...I use the search button at the top of the page...just tried it again and it's fine. I never use the search button at the bottom of the page, so not sure if it's the same or not.

I did a "hosta slugs" search in both boxes. 947 hits on the search all of Garden Web, and 291 hits for search only the hosta forum, so one does help to narrow things down a bit.

Sorry Phil--I was just frustrated in trying to pull up past hosta-topic discussions and was hoping
someone could help me figure out if and what I was doing wrong! I didn't get any response from
contacting GW directly through their contact link.

I will try what all of you have been so kind to suggest. Never had this happen before so I was
concerned that things have changed over the winter in a way I'd not like at all.

There are so many past discussions worth going back and reviewing and so much info to be had
by looking back!!!

babka--I did what you suggested and THAT WORKED for me. Nothing else does, so I'll have to settle
for that round-a-bout way of getting to what I want! At least there is a WAY, now!!

WOOHOO, all's well! Tamara (good job) responded to my contact about the problem and everything's back to normal
on my end. It seems the advertising links are the norm, but what had been missing (the discussions) was somehow left out
unless I did what babka suggested!

All's well with my hosta world now that I can do my discussions-pertaining-to-my-hosta-garden searches again!!

I'm done now--I'm crawling back into one of my empty barrels, (the woodwork) but I'm looking for a hosta to put in it when
I do crawl back out!! :o)
