If your Hoyas get enough light to grow they will probably have weak growth and you will also most likely not see blooms. Hoyas are generally thought of as gap plants or plants that grow naturally in the margins of forests and not in the deep shade of the forest floor. Some Hoyas will grow and look beautiful in shady conditions but they need more sun to bloom. Hoya imperalis has a very upright growth habit until it gets quite big and that is normal, your plants look nice and healthy from their time under lights.

It actually COULD take about 1.5 hours of direct light a day IF I move the plant to the opposite corner of the rail, from where I shot the picture. However, it will only be possible to see the plant when you get out in the patio, when I wanted to see it from inside through the window door.... oh well, but if that is what it takes to make it bloom I can give it a shot, why not?

Do I have to water it more often if I leave it outside? Let me tell you, since I got this plant, I always watered it once a month and that seemed to be much better than watering it every week, or every other week? What should I do if I leave it outside at 100F in the summer?

The best option to keep the pot outdoor on the patio is in wall West facing to east (the first sun of the day). If this isn't possible you can try North-South.

Facing North the plant, probably, never grow-up flowers.

You can see some hoyas at "My Page". They are outdoor facing West. I don't have another option.

The most sun you can give your plants in that location the better. The weaker growth in the shade will be irresistible to bugs outside. I would go for the sunny position and soon that Hoya imperalis will be quite tall. You want to water when the soil is just beginning to dry out on the surface, don't go on a schedule or you will not get good growth. Some Hoyas really hate to dry out so you have to keep an eye on them and they can be quite thirsty when actively growing.
Once your Hoya imperalis gets larger you will have to train it on a trellis or a support of some kind. The Hoya carnosa can grow on a trellis or hanging down or trailing. Are you planning on keeping the two potted together? If not it would be a good time to pot them up separately and decide on a trellis for the imperalis.

I was thinking of hanging the entire pot on the wall indoor and let the stems trail down like a cascade. It does not matter if I cannot have blooms after all. I think that considering the place where my apartment is situated, having foliage is already a luxury! I would prefer to leave both of the plants in the same pot because I think it would look gorgeous with some foliage trailing up, and some trailing down! I will put it on the sun-facing side of the patio and see what will happen. It will not look bad at all outdoor! However I will have to find another plant that I can place indoor where the Hoya was!

Pepeuve, do you cover your hoyas with plastic sheets and keep them outdoor during winter in Spain? If you do, I think I will be able to do that too here in Texas!

I keep them outdoor all year.
In "Summer" I cover with "tolda" because the temperature is higher and the sun here is very, very strong.

temperature in Málaga, in July and Agost, some days, is about 40-42º (The famous "Terrá") and nothing humidity.

what temperatures do you have in Winter? Here it gets even -15C celsius (or 0F Fahreneit). Does it get this cold in Malaga too? If so, I will start reconsidering whether I should keep the plant indoor during the winter!

You have a good temperature in Winter.
The average temperature in Málaga is 20º (In Winter) and don´t have any problem whit them. I use the toldas in summer and only cover the top of my 7 hoyas. This spring and summer they give'll me about 80 or 90 flowers.

Wow, if it's 20C in winter that means it is 70F in winter where you live... I wish I lived were you live ahah! (and they say that Texas is hot!)

That means I will have to bring my Hoya indoors during winter, or it would freeze and die.

In Málaga we also have minimum temperature of 6º or 7º but the carnosa resists 1º por 2º. My mather in love hade a hoya in "Ronda" (Málaga) and some years snows.

I'm in GA and my dilemma was whether to keep my hoya plants (mostly carnosa's) over an air vent in my mega air conditioned house in a southern window with lots of bright light or move them outside to a north facing deck with no direct sun, but lots of GA heat and humidity. Well, in 2007 I started moving them outside for the summer (may-nov) and they've done great out there ,,, nice growth and just as many blooms. I also prefer the large, dark green leaves, so facing north works for me.

Understand that a position outside in shade is far brighter than an indoor position against the glass in any exposure. I usually put a Hoya on my covered front porch every year, hanging in a position where it gets no direct sun at all because of a close neighbor. Whichever one gets that position grows like crazy and will usually bud up after a summer out there. (I usually choose a "problem child" for that position - otherwise, most of mine stay inside because of aphids...)

And a few smaller ones will go out to my back deck, which faces north, and will get just a bit of afternoon dappled sun. Those do great, too, so I wouldn't hesitate to put it out on a north-facing patio. I'm betting it'll do great!
