Congratulations on your new hoya. If you look on Logee's website it says "Some direct sunlight with periods of dryness works best".
So it seems to me that it likes to be treated like most other hoyas (mostly indirect sunlight and let it dry out before watering again). I would treat it like you treat your Carnosa...if it's 20 years old and it's blooming every year, you must be doing something right :-)
I'm sure there's someone on here that has a Lauterbachii and can give you more specific care info.
Do you have pics of your hoyas to post? I'd love to see the Lauterbachii and also your blooming carnosa (even if it's not in bloom now, I'd love to see what a 20 year old Carnosa looks like).

Thanks for the response. I did have the info from Logee's on conditions for the Lauterbachii, was hoping someone with experience growing it would have some tidbits of lore for me! I'll get photos of both up here soon, just need to take time to download and resize them.
The carnosa (I believe it is, although not so sure this afternoon after seeing photos of publocalyx (Sp)) was transplanted last year into a larger pot which I think may set it back a bit in bloom this year. It is trained over bamboo hoops right now, when I unraveled it for the transplant some of the vines were over 20' long! It has already put out about 3' of growth this year and is wrapped back upon itself. I absolutely love this plant.

Heres a photo of the carnosa, i'll post the lauterbachii next. The carnosa (at least I believe that's what it is!) is on a hoop that is 38 inches from top of pot to top of hoop. Wrapped spiral fashion on itself numerous times.

You can tell from the flowers whether the plant is a Pubicalyx or a Carnosa. Also, Carnosa can have those "specks" that Pubicalyx has, which is probably what is causing you to question the ID. In terms of flowers, Carnosa has white flowers with red centers, and Pubicalyx (depending on the type) has either pink flowers with white centers or dark red/purple flowers with red centers.

I can't believe your hoya has 20' vines! And 3' of growth this year already?? What's your secret?!

Gabi, I don't know what I'm doing but it must be right on target for the carnosa. I have no photos of the flowers but I'll get them this year for sure. I fertilize once or twice a summer with algroflash or miracle grow or peters what ever is near me when I fill the jug! It is in a southwestern exposure of a very cool in the winter plant room that has gotten as low as the mid thirties this winter. During the summer the room get's to the high 90's to low 100's. I have not put the plants outside for a couple of years now during the summer because there is no shaded area in my new abodes garden...yet.

That is one HUGE hoya! My vote would be for Carnosa, but the flowers would be the real identifier. I'm a little confused though...if it's been blooming every year for the past 10 years, you realy don't remember what color the flowers are??
I can't open the pic to your Lauterbachii for some reason. Maybe try posting it again?

The flowers are kind of fuzzy/furry looking and very pale pink almost white. I want to post a photo to get some opinions when it blooms. When they are so pale I have trouble remembering! I recall a darker star in the center and they drip copious sweet necter! I really want to say pink, but very pale pink outer petal (?). I even kept a couple of the dried fallen blooms but they are tan to brown now.
I'll try posting the lauterbachii again. The carnosa is so wrapped up on itself that I don't know if I'll be able to unwrap it again. My dream is to have a greenhouse and have it travel up one side and drape across the roof beams!

By the way, thanks for the complement on the pony tail. I inherited it when a friend passed away about 4 years ago. When I got it, it was in a plastic pot that was so tight on the base that I had to cut it off. Have no idea how old it is but he was an avid bonsai collector and I think his intent was to one day use it as one. It's very happy now and has very special meaning for me.

Carnosa flowers can be on the pinkish side sometimes, but the regular carnosa variety has white flowers (other carnosa varieties, like the variegated Krimson Princess, has pink flowers I think). Like you said, the outside of the petals are pink. If you look at pictures of regular Carnosa buds, they are pink. But once they open they are white (but they might look slightly pink...I'm not sure). From what you described, it sounds like you have Carnosa. If the flowers were white with a dark center, it couldn't have been Pubicalyx.

By the way, sorry to hear about your friend. It's great that you have something of his to remember him by.

The flowers on my Carnosa look very much like the lower umbel in the second photo. Kind of pinkish with a furry look to them.

Wow! What a lovely plants you have!

I thought my Lauterbachii would be one of those fussy plants that would die instantly. When I got it, it was a one-node cutting and I was sure I would kill it straight away. But it's absolutely growing now, I am so happy with it. I agree it's got lovely fuzzy leaves.

I kept mine on bottom heat all through the winter - I have a small seedling grower that stays at a constant warmth - and I had to repot it when it started falling out of its 2inch pot this spring. I'm now feeding it with the beer fertilizer and it's on its way to the skies... I read it likes to grow up and grow back down again before it flowers, but I'm still trying to figure out whether I want to grow it on a U-hoop bamboo frame or just a circle... hmmm. It likes lots of light too.

Thanks so much for you complement and information. I did not know about the up and down again growth issue to get blooms. I'll probably grow it on the bamboo U-hoop like my carnosa is growing on. I'll mount it on the outside of a pot once it is moved into a larger pot. Until then Iwill most likely just train it up a bamboo stake. I'm going to keep it on the pot-bound side of root growth. It took 19 years to get my carnosa into the pot it's in. I grew that up a bamboo tee-pee until I moved it last year. I'll have to look into this beer fertilizer I've been reading about on here. I've mostly used the off the shelf basic ferts available here. No complaints from the plants so far!
