Of the several hosta potted and overwintered in the garage, the only one with actual pips is Little Treasure.

I re-covered the garden planted hosta lightly with pine needles. Trying to keep them sleepy for a while longer during the normal Spring roller coaster ride.

Temps are supposed to get back to a high in the low 30's and in the low 20's Sunday night...

Here is Beet Salad. Notice there is a purplish/red line around the leaf to the left.....which I'm very proud to see.

Xanadu looks like cigarettes laying on a table, but will straighten up as they seek the sunlight

Paradise Island has two plants in this one pot. I took the picture as I righted the pot, so you see how it seeks the high ground. It was so pretty last year, I hope it continues the trend.

I really must get out there with my camera. These hosta are in a rush to get on with growing, and a day makes a lot of difference.

When you see such pips outside, rabbits and squirrels see them too and they are very hungry. I have still snow everywhere but plan to spray Liquid Fence on any hosta pip I can see once I can see the ground. Bernd

And, if you want to see a dropdead GORGEOUS Beet Salad, look for SteveMass picture which is to die for. I'll try to find it, but be on the lookout for a big treat.

I went outside briefly today after our heavy storm passed, and my QOTS is up further, others are unfurling, and I can almost HEAR the hosta growing! What a great week. Now to get rid of my sniffles and get on with the up tipping.

Berndny, in my garden, unless the wabbits come at night, they will encounter two very ambitious huntress doxie girls.

My baby girl doxie, Dolly, brought me an injured bird yesterday, a goldfinch, but it died later in the day. Then this morning she caught a half drowned mole, and was coveting it for a time, but gave it up without a chase. I don't sweat the moles though, they don't eat plant materials. And as far as I can tell, voles haven't moved this far south.

Wow, Mocc, that's a real bonus, no voles. I think you are juuuuust out of range of the pine vole. Your post made me interested, so I looked up some range/habitat maps. Feel free to Bronx cheer them as much as you want. : )

(They must also think it's an 'impossibility' to grow hostas in Mobile.) I won't tell 'em.

Shhhh, Don, say that softly so they won't hear and move in with their extended families. I'm sure their range is not official, but being a bit too far south is fine with me. I think they are found in Birmingham, about 200 miles north of here. I'll ask the nursery lady up there next time I call her (to order Alabama Sunrise). I have Alabama Gold, Alabama Bowl, and simply must have the third one. Seems once upon a time there was a hosta hybridizer in north Alabama. Back in the "old days."

We had a pretty severe cold front just as the fragrants were emerging. It slowed down my others and scorched a couple of the early risers.

Anyone else notice the red at the top of the leaf? Is that a usual thing for this one?

Here is my Stephan King from May 2013. One of the leaves seems to have a red leaf tip, but not as magnificently as yours. That is a beaut you are growing.

HostaLibrary only has one photo of it up, by the hybridizer Alttara Scheer. Hard to tell on that, but I plan to take a look at the registration description. Surely it is a feature worth mentioning. Thanks forsharing that, Smith.

Oh, BKay, isn't Sugar And Cream outstanding! Her seed pods were the largest of any set in my garden last year. All of yours look really good, I could not spot any burn.

I lost Dream Queen last year, and decided not to bother with replacing it. Fragrant Queen is good enough for me. :)

Babka, how goes your lovely Snake Eyes? I have one on order, but meantime how about a peek at the real thing? Please?
