The veins on the leaf remind me of the H. elliptica. But, the red stems of the flowers are like the red pubicalyx.

Xuan, it must be so nice to collect hoyas in the wild. I wish I could. What ever it is beautiful flowers!!! Very nice find indeed.

Now that I have taken interest in it and found out most of the hoyas I like are native to the Philippines. Not fair...To be able to go back in time...

By the way that Hoya is pretty cool, I love the flowers. Pretty neat being able to just pick out your own hoya plant from the woods. Lucky You!!

It's definitely not elliptica or pubicalyx. All pubicalyx flowers are purple-ish/pink-ish. As far as the veining, tons of hoyas have that (also, elliptica leaves look like turtle shells).

What's coming to mind is either H. pottsii (Vietnam) or Sp. Chieng Mai, or spelled Cheng Mei or Chiang Mai - lots of spelling variations (that one is also in the pottsii family). I don't know what the flowers look like for either of those, but I do know that they are reflexed like the ones above, and the foliage looks like it could be a pottsii clone.

I could be WAY off, but I just wanted to throw that out there. Good luck with it.

Actually there're many of this kind of vine on the pine trees along one of the roads in this city of Dalat where we have a home; only they are way too high up to be collected easily. I was lucky I found this one low enough (had to pay a boy an amount equivalent to US$1 to get the vine down for me!). I think if I dare go into the 'real' woods, I might be able to find more interesting plants!

Gabi, I googled H. Pottsii but the leaves don't look similar, those on this wild one is VERY THICK and ROUNDER. What do you think about H.Cardiophylla?

Puglvr1 - That's how I ended up on Guam, too - my ex was in the Air Force, and we went from Mississippi to California to Guam. It's about the only real traveling I've ever done. We almost visited the Philippines once, but I seem to recall there was some political unrest going on and they didn't want military personel there right then. Missed opportunities...

Wish I can get some of the Hoyas from the Philippines, I have a brother that travels there 3 or 4 times a year. Unfortunately I think the agricultural laws wouldn't allow for him to bring back native plants to the US. *sigh*. Like you said, missed opportunities...

There are many different clones of pottsii, and I believe Sp. Chieng Mai is very thick and succulent (just like certain pottsii clones). I wouldn't rule it out just yet. For example, take a look at this pic of Sp. Chieng Mai:

As for H. cardiophylla, I do not think it is that. The flowers are pretty much all white (or creme), and the ones on your's have pink centers and dark pink/brown corolla edges. Also, the closed buds on H. cardiophylla are white/creme (not dark pink like the ones on your's), and the pedicels are creme/faint pink (unlike the dark pink pedicels on your's).

I also see a big difference in terms of foliage (of course, we can't focus on color because of the sun damage to your's, so we have to look at shape, texture, etc.) - the foliage of cardiophylla doesn't seem as "stiff" as your's, and there appears to be much less veining (there is just a center vein, where your's seems to have 3):

That is true, those flowers and buds from that link do not look the same. I know that person from another forum, and I've seen his flowers from H. Sp. Chieng Mai. I know they are different in color from yours, but I just took my best guest according to a bunch of identifiers in your picture. I never said it was the definite ID! Also, it could just be a variation - not sure at all.

Whatever it is, it really does look like some sort of H. pottsii clone, and my best guess is H. Sp. Cheng Mai. I wish you much luck growing it. It's a beauty!

Yeah, I could never have an unlabed hoya. I'm way too OCD with labeling!! I would drive me mad!

Keep us updated on how this one does. I bet the new leaves will grow out to be really beautiful. Post pics of new growth if you remember...I'd love to see it.

I think it looks very mutch like my Hoya vitellina! Maybe the buds on mine aren´t as reddish but that could be because it is standig in a window facing north.

As for Xuan's plant being that, I can't see the similarities (in the flowers or the leaves). The flowers in vitellina aren't reflexed (at least in the pics I've seen of them), and the color is not the same as Xuan's flowers. I don't know, Xuan what do you think?

I agree with Gabi: on my hoya, the buds are redder, the blooms are whiter and especially the smell is sweet, just like other hoyas carnosa, or krimson queen, or pubicalyx. I mean, I enjoy "smelling" it (but maybe tastes are different!)
I found the pics in the links above quite different in that the buds are white, the blooms look greenish, but the one leaf in the first link looks similar!

Were you referring to the leaves when you said your vitellina looks just like Xuan's plant? Because I just see no similarity in the flowers. As far as the leaves go, I've noticed in every picture of the leaves (including yours...which by the way is a gorgeous leaf!) that the leaves are more elongated than Xuan's (his are much more round), and not reversed heart-shaped, like his are.

Gosh, you just made me SO excited to get my vitellina! I just love the color of the blooms, and I love those succulent veined leaves. Thanks again for posting pics.

Thanks for the welcome. I've posted off and on over the last year or two, only have 2 hoya right now but I love'm! Subclava is on my have to have next list!!!! If only I were able to climb a tree and bring home a hoya, wouldn't that be wonderful (even to climb a tree and survive at my age would be wonderful!)

Chaz, I don't recommend you climbing that tree no matter how interesting those hoya vines are! Not our age any more!
