Hosta Virus X and Round up

In all the discussions on Hosta Virus X, I've not seen anyone explain why heavily spraying an infected plant with Roundup won't kill the virus right down in the roots. Would the scientists/HVX specialists chime in here please! This method of destroying infected plants seems so obvious there has to be a very good scientific reason why it isn't an approved pracice!

It is my understanding that spraying Roundup kills both the leaves and roots of a plant.

Does the virus live on after the cell has died because of the Roundup? Would it "spill" live virus out into the soil as it was being pulled/dug up after it died as a result of Roundup?
