Just a guess...but it looks like my H. pottsii, so does the bloom. Hopefully someone can confirm it or give the correct ID.

Wow! Thanks everybody! I appreciate the many compliments! Thank you all so much! I'm only too happy to share my little jungle with all of you! Actually, I'm rather proud of it all! I'm pretty certain all of my Supreme Garden bulbs ARE Supreme Garden... I just got 2 large clusters of them from Royal Colors, and they look exactly like the catalog photos... In fact, each cluster of bulbs came in a different order, and both clusters were identical... I had to part out one of the clusters because there was some rot in the center bulb... so, it was separated and planted in 3 different pots... I think maybe my camera doesn't pick up the true color of the blooms, and that's why it might look like another variety... unless... Royal Colors is selling something other than Supreme Garden, and calling it that anyway... I certainly hope it's Supreme Garden! As far the lighting... the whole jungle is bathed in sunlight from the time the sun rises, until it passes over the house... and then grow lights on timers automatically switch on and run... Larry has them set for an eighteen hour cycle, I believe... the lights aren't visible in the pictures, so it appears that they only get dim window light... I try to provide all of my plants with adequate lighting... things have gotten a lot better since I bought my first bulbs! I know my bulbs would be much happier if they could live outdoors, and the size and color would be better, but I'm stuck with indoor growing during the colder months... I move the pots around frequently, depending on who needs the most sunshine at the moment... growing indoors is a constant battle against certain things, but once spring gets here, the bulbs will go out to the garden for some rest and recuperation... by the time they come back indoors, they should all be fat and happy! Thanks BJ...I often go there. I had wanted parrot Jungle last year, but did't buy it, but then Bill put the Linda Beck special up, I ordered it and Ledgerwood's Firecracker which I wanted too. It will be opening in a few days. Thanks Vickie, I think the rebloom is better than the original blooms, but I suspect a day or so later the splotches may be still better. (ie. not so prominent.) Thanks Rose...I really figured it had been altered, so was tickled to see the throat so green (and large) and the intense colors. kay

Xuan that's good to hear I like seeing your jungle collected plants. Do you grow any orchids in your garden? Hills that's just it these species are variable and because Xuans plant is a wild collected seed grown plant and not a cutting grown plant (essentially a clone) that is passed around from grower to grower there will be quiet a range of leaf and flower sizes and colours. The Hoya pubicalax cultivars are a perfect example of variation within a species when seedlings are selected for their different traits. My Hoya carnosa has speckles on most of the leaves so I am still leaning towards Hoya dasyantha but there is no real certainty unless it were identified by a trained botanist. Both Hoya carnosa and Hoya dasyantha are found in the boarder region of Vietnam and Southern China, Hoya fungii was collected on the island of Hainan in the gulf of Tonkin if I remember correctly but I can't find the source where I found that info. The plant in the link is also unidentified, who knows there can be naturally occurring hybrids where species overlap in their natural ranges so that can just add to the confusion. I agree that my Hoya carnosa has more rounded or almost squared corolla lobes where Xuan's plant has more pointed or acute lobes. The leaf surface also appears less shiny that my Hoya carnosa but I am not sure that is a distinguishing feature. In the description that is given in the link below the acute angles of the corolla lobes is mentioned as well as slightly raised leaf veins so those two characteristics may be enough to separate Xuan's plant from Hoya carnosa. Greedyghost: this is the best I can do to give you some ideas of how my plants climb. I planted in them in pots and hung the pots under a tree in the garden. The vines started climbing up from the pots. ... onto the tree ... and outward on a branch. You can see a few peduncles there. Enjoy. Xuan

Beautiful Hoya Xuan congratulations on the blooms. At first I though your plant looked like Hoya verticillata but the three veins on the leaf mean it is another species. Hoya pottsii does have three prominent veins on the leaf so it is a definit possability.

Mike...I sure wish I was half as knowledgeable as you are regarding Hoyas...I've never even thought to count the number of veins on any of my hoyas. You're just brilliant!! Patrick

Both my "true" pottsii and my nicholsonii have less oblong, more round leaves. How big are your leaves? Mike may be right about the veins being the tale-tell of which species it is - I guess I don't pay much attention to that either!

I posted a link to a photo of one of the Hoya pottsii collections from Vietnam, click ahead for a photo of another Hoya pottsii's leaves which are much like Denise describes. The leaves of Hoya pottsii are generally quite different from Hoya verticillata but Hoya pottsii is found over a huge range from China all the way to Australia so there is bound to be variation in flower colour an leaf shape.
Xuan is the leaf in the photo a new leaf that has yet to fully mature? My Hoya acuta which is arguably the same species as verticilata does have three veins while the leaf is developing but once the leaf hardens only the central vein is visible. Hoya veticillata and Hoya acuta are also supposed to be powerfully fragrant while Hoya pottsii's scent is said to be weaker. I have yet to smell either so I am not much help but I thought that might be a clue. The great thing about Hoyas is that there are still new species being found but it can be hard to come up with a name as well.

Mike: this leaf on my plant is a mature one.

Denise: the leaves are about 12cm long and 4cm wide.

Cpawl: I think the blooms on my plant look exactly like those of yours.
