Can you treat it w/ alcohol at least?

I have plans on treating it as soon as I find the alcohol. There are only a few, so still hope. I was just posting the picture for ID purposes. Some people have no idea what mealies are.

The good thing is there are three stems still unaffected by the cold snap, I'll be repotting it into a smaller pot, come spring.

PS the webbing is a spider not mites, a good thing at least.

Don't you hate those darn mealies??? I've been getting hit lately (once again...after a big hit over the summer). I treated them with alcohol and also used a systemic (BATS), and that worked WONDERS! So I did that again with the new "attack"...we'll see what happens.

As for the ID, can you post a picture taken from further away? Also, what size are the leaves, are they pubescent, etc. If the leaves are pubescent (fuzzy), could it be H. lauterbachii? I wasn't too concerned with ID just at the moment, too much other redundant, almost Days of Our Lives quality stuff to worry about. It does looks very close to my plant. I'll post a picture later this evening after I get my house cleaned up a bit. The leaves are fuzzy and almost pettable lol I try not to touch it too much, maybe that's why it has mealies.

Haha...sorry bout that. I just reread what you wrote and realized I misunderstood. You wrote "I was just posting the picture for ID purposes", and I thought you meant ID of the plant...now I see you meant ID of mealies. DUH!

P.S. If it's "pettable" (LOVE that word), it could also be H. calycina. You get such great finds - I'm jealous!

The first thing I thought of when I saw your pic was my australis ssp. sana, which is very fuzzy...

I've had mine for years and it's HUGE, yet has never bloomed for me. Has yours?

It's not a very good shot because after spraying it the fuzz is plastered to the leaves, I'm afraid to wash it off for a couple days so it has time to kill all the nasties. You can, however, see the leaf shape and the upright growth. I haven't cut off any of the dried or soft stems yet. I'm going to wait and see if the roots come back before chopping them all off. I did find out the source for these plants is Rainbow Gardens in Vista. Can you see the poor man's drip catcher?

I'd strongly suggest cutting off the dried out stuff now, w/ those brown spots, I don't know, I'd be afraid whatever that is would spread. That yellow stuff will not come back (sorry, but that part's dead).

If it were mine I would do this immediately, I'd either pull up the dead yellow by its stems, completely up & out, old roots & all (you'll see those roots are dead, maybe crunchy). Interesting how its leaves shapes appear so variable, from large tear shaped to small rounded, nice whatever it is. Good luck w/ it.

PG, Thanks! I was going to transplant it down to a 4 in clay pot come spring, but if you say no hope, than I'll go ahead and do it. I don't like fiddling with roots this time of year, but have on occasion if need be. I agree the brown spots are suspect, yesterday they weren't there. I wonder if the dead had a reaction to the alcohol spray.
