There are other threads on CBG. I used them last year and was not happy with the size or the condition of the plants I received. If you want a Georgia based on line nursery try Hosta Liners and order their market ready size. JMO.

anything south of the mason-dixon line ought to get you going fast enough ... and naylor probably isnt that far behind ....

One word of caution...always have a chat with the seller, or see if info is posted on the website, regarding HVX. You cannot be sure a hosta doesn't have a virus just by observation. Contamination can come at many levels. They might start out as clean tc's from the lab, but if the grower puts them into infected soil you have a problem. Sometimes it takes a few years for the problem to show up. that is one reason we all like Hallsons Gardens so much. He tests each batch he gets on his own to make sure they are clean.

There is a link at the Hosta Library for where to get the test strips in case you have doubts for any you have already purchased. Keeping them in pots until you know they are safe to put into the ground is a good plan for any that might be questionable, such as those from un-knowing growers, OR big box stores.

Once the HVX is in your ground you cannot grow hostas in that spot for a long, long, long, time.

I'm one of those higher zoned folks whose plants come up in March. I KNOW how impatient you are probably getting, but getting good, healthy plants is worth the wait in the long run.

I got the number for HostaLiners and found one other one, Blooming Designs Nursery. I am going to try to call them both, but ran out of hours today. Will be happy to share info about results with any of these later.

There was a hosta grower in N. Alabama, I think. Google for a hosta supplier in Alabama or Georgia. They seemed like a viable vendor to me. I have not ordered from them, as they don't show up on my radar regularly.

Also, some of the west coast nurseries ship earlier than the mid-west ones.

There is Bob Solberg's hosta nursery in North Carolina, see link. He is a famous hosta grower and will have quality plants.

To get your hosta fix early in the year, do what I do. Buy a bunch of hosta and leave them in pots to overwinter. When you get the urge to grow hosta in February, bring those pots indoors and grow them under lights.

I've purchased plants from Bob Solberg (Green Hill Farm) in the winter so that I could get them while they were still dormant and then planted them here in March so they came up on schedule with the rest of the hostas in my Michigan garden without any shock like I've had with leafed out plants. Bob was very accommodating with my shipping request and I was happy with my purchases.

I would swear that there was a supplier from N. Alabama on the forum last year for a couple of posts. I looked at his website at the time, and it looked impressive. He was in zone 7. I've searched and been unsuccessful in locating that post, though. Maybe I dreamed it.

Also, there has been an increasing number of hosta showing up in local nurseries here in the last couple of years. Monrovia Nurseries is doing lots of hosta lately. They are out of California, but sell lots of plants in the south. So, try your local nurseries. Lowe's carries hosta here. I've bought some nice ones over the last few years and all have been healthy.

There has been some problems with plants from the Netherlands, so I would stay away from plants from there. They are usually bare-root plants in boxes. I'm not as concerned as others about this, as I grow in pots and don't have to worry about contaminating my soil with diseases as long as I keep them in pots.

You might also look into White Oak Nursery. They are out of IL, but I think they ship earlier because they ship out of a cooler, not from digging. But ask them - I might be wrong.

I placed my second order with Nancy and Bob Solberg before the end of January. The shipping date on my four babies is April 9th, and I am in Mobile AL.

The plants I got from them on the first order grew like crazy for me up in zone 5b MA, were potted up and moved south in November, and have already shown their eyes and in a lot of cases begun leafing out too. Very happy with my orders from them. Calling is the best option.

I cannot wait to see their H. 'Sugar Plum.' And the plantagenea 'Doubled Up'.... and two others. I feel like these plants are royalty.
