Opting out

Hi everyone,

as you know, GW was sold to iVillage over a year ago.

iVillage reserves the right to distribute your e-mail address to their affiliates unless you opt out (this can be seen when you register).

Here is the link to go to to get your addt out of such a list.

I've not been recieving junk mail so I'm unclear what the problem is? (but my internet server does have an ad-blocker/spam filter so I might not see the spam?)Firefox's ad-blocker extention has stopped those annoying floating ads, so on that count I am happy too!

iVillage reserves the right to share your email with third parties, and affiliates. If you have a spam blocker, that's good.

I'm using FF too and most ads are gone. However I still see that triangular iVillage survey floating add. They should at least provide us with tools allowing to shoot at it. Grrrr.

Sue is right in that you should uncheck the box next to "show (or share?) my email..." while editing your member page. I believe that is another "issue" they are working on, but until it's resolved, it's best to write it out (like this - myemailaddyATyahooDOTcom), if you want to share it with other GWebbers and want to avoid the spammers. :) Thanks for that opt-out link, Westelle! The Vibrant Opt-Out Link Isn't Working

You can opt-out on the Vibrant links by following these instructions: 1. When you're on a GardenWeb page, hover your cursor on the double-underlined word, but don't click it. You will see an advertisement open in a pop-up box. 2. In the upper-left corner of the box, click the 'V' logo. A new browser window will open the Vibrant in-text advertising page. 3. Scroll partially down this page, and click the 'Disable' tab. Click 'Click here to disable.' The page should update to now say 'Click here to enable.' 4. Close the Vibrant in-text advertising browser window, then once you refresh your main browser window the Vibrant in-text advertising should disappear. I hope this helps!

I had it blocked using the link GardenWeb provided at the top of the page but when I ran my usual security scan and restarted my computer, I started seeing those darned intellitext highlights again. I have a feeling some security programs/anti-virus delete the cookie. I went into tools and added intellitext.com as a blocked site. If that doesn't work I'll go into my Norton program and Ad-Aware, whatever else might apply, and block from there. Carol

Opt out of Catalogues and junk mail

I actually like looking at catalogs. I open my mail near the waste basket in my kitchen. Anything I can recycle goes in my paper recycling box, things I don't need or want go in trash, only bills, correspondence and catlogues I'm interested in make it to my desk.

My son added some FireFox ad-ons to my browser then came here to GW to show me how to use them. You right click on an ad and chose to block it..... you'll never see that ad anywhere again:-) (adblock) No more floating ads.

I am regularly getting spammed so now I know why. I have a spam filter, but it just means that junk goes into a special inbox which I have to clear out. Very annoying. I never open emails when I don't know where they're coming from. Thanks for the head's up.
