Didn't realize this was posted in "Discussions" until today!

We have an exchange group going, so let's see if anyone else wants to join in :)

Sue, Watching the leaves grow is really exciting! I'm sure they will do well for you! I'll do this again in the spring! :) Maybe this time with 2 boxes. This Fall trading season taught me that leaves really don't last much at all if water is added, so many neat leaves were lost to rot. And if in the box too long- stuff should be dated. That way you can decide what to 'save.' Know what to replace. Smaller swaps (less people per box) would be better for the varieties- quicker turn around. George, Good point! I followed someone a couple of times in a swap that lived in an area colder than mine- and then sent the box to a warmer area! More than usual rotted. So, it made me wonder if chill to heat stresses the leaves out terribly! Maybe doing the box (in the same climate) makes a lot of sense! Brunhilda, Yes minis/semis rot first, that's really true! Also, variegated leaves go quickly! The variegation starts to rot! Always try to catch it with cinnamon. Use a sharp razor to cut it off. Scissors smash cells- What I've learned the most this year, is you can't please everyone- eventually someone's going to complain-and be unhappy with your box! Take it lightly- always do your best! Pack a box you would love to receive- that's really all you can do! :) Lastly, if you receive brown cold dead leaves- don't blame anyone, it's the weather! Or the leaves are just delicate, and bruised during shipment! Stuff dies, be willing to take a chance! Replace what you can in each box, and have fun! We all grow violets because we love them! You just never know what 'must have' leaf can be in that box! :) Deb

I just saw your reply there Wendy at the SEED X about the hazelnutbunny thread over here and stopped by here to see if I could maybe find it and provide the link over there in that thread at the Seed Exchange Conversations....that's what resident busy bodies do ya know! Anywho...the correct thing to do would be to make a suggestion at The Suggestion Forum. You could then provide a link in this thread to the Suggestion thread in the hope that others would go and additionally request an (Off Topic) Conversation side here. Off topic might be better if folks just wanted to post things about stuff not relating directly to RR. It does not appear that the Suggestions are read by GW management, but I do think that in time they will act on some of the many 'good' suggestions that have been made that others have shown a lot of interest in. GW has not made any actual forum additions to my knowledge in a very long time, but I 'think' when they do, they will likely make several of them at the same time, as they did the last time...late 2006. One can hope anyway. I have given my vote of support to several of the suggestions. Heya, Purpleacres - the head honchos might not see this - but if you go to the GW home page, there is a link to "Contact us", which might get your communication to them more directly. Ahh yes, the math skills are really horrible (I don't know if this is just an epidemic in WV or if the whole US is calculator spoiled). I'll never forget one time I was at McDonald's and my total came to something like $4.96 and I gave her a $5...she messed up the register and was completely lost as to how much to give me back. I said "it's just 4 cents, don't worry about it"...but she said "well, then my register will be off"...so I waited for her to go get her supervisor who proceeded to use a calculator to figure up my change. I was completely dumbfounded. I'm not sure those were the exact amounts..but it was very simple math...so sad. The bad thing is I've seen several examples similar to this. For a short while while I was in college, I worked at Shoney's. I ended up quitting after about a month or so because the supervisor kept forcing me to work over when I had exams yo study for and things I really needed to get home to...but when I went in to quit, the manager came into the office and tried to talk me out of it because they had been having trouble finding people who can count back change! Amazing to me.

And since this is the FIRST Round Robin I have ever participated in, I guess those unspoken, unwritten rules just passed me by.

This sounds great, a lil confusing, but GREAT! My cuttings of DS-70 are unrooted-FYI. I also have Lacunosa and Publicalyx 'Pink Silver'. What is the next step? Thanks!

Yeah, it is a little confusing. If I had known what a 'round robin' really was in this day and age, I could have preempted the confusion! LOL :)

I SUPPOSE WHAT WE SHOULD HAVE DONE IS SIMPLY HAVE EVERYONE LIST THEIR "HAVES" ONLY.

Then each member could just choose 2 available cuttings.

If we remove our "WANTS" (since it looks like we won't be able to match those anyway from the list we've gotten so far) everyone would get something. It might not match their WANTS, but I wouldn't mind that so much!

What do you all think?

Yes, we can do this again in the Spring. I wish more people would join, but I think I messed it up w/ the confusion and not knowing how a round-robin is conducted in the garden world!

I am going to be having major surgery, so in a few weeks will not be available for maybe 6 weeks. I'm hoping less, but who knows....

I am planning on sending whisst the varigata anyway. I just wanted to make sure I got the two bugs and no more were coming. One branch tip died for some reason - maybe it didn't like the GSE spray, or I watered a bit too much. But the rest of the plant looks good. Now where did I put that priority mail box.....?
