Any pics of DL's Wild Horses or Autumn Wood?

Does anyone have a pic from their gardens this year of either of these DL's?

Is Wild Horses more yellow than creamy color?

WH is a nice creamy color in my garden.

Autumn Wood is one of those with "many" faces in my garden.

Jan: thanks for the photos. Any reason you can think of why Autumn Wood is so different from last year to this year? I would much prefer the coloring I see in your "this years photo" compared to "last years".

I didn't want to get WH if the coloring was going to be yellowy (is this a word?). Much prefer a nice creamy color with the purple.

I don't have any seedlings yet of WH. Perhaps you checked this already but if you haven't,go to the AHS database, do an advanced search, scroll to the bottom of the page and where it says PARENTAGE, type in Wild Horses, you will see some pics of registrations which have WH as a pod or pollen parent. I've given away so much of these in the first group listed that I know they are prolific and some I still have two clumps of. I have the year listed that I bought them so I can keep track of how much they have grown, but after so many splits and divides, the year doesn't mean as much. I believe all of these would be under $10. Even when I had my smallish collection growing in very-less-than-ideal conditions (pots, shade ranging from some to deep, etc. etc. etc.), I'd have had difficulty limiting the number to five. So much difficulty in fact that, with the exception of a few I left behind by mistake, I took my entire collection when we moved. Now that so many of them are growing as they should be grown, choosing just five?....fuggedaboutit, as they say.:) But if you're looking for a short list of "classic" or "should be grown" daylilies, think about adding RUBY SPIDER to the list. I had a couple of mingy fans in the shade, which did absolutely zippo at the old place. Here, in the veg garden, with its amazing soil, it exploded into a clump within a year. Fabulous brilliant red, really really eye-catching. I don't have it, but I definitely second BELLE COOK. I was so impressed with it in the nearby AHS display garden that I marked it down twice on my list, once per visit, and without realizing it. I probably will get it this year. Same with HEAVENLY ANGEL ICE -- this one is gorgeous here in zone 6. You should think about getting that one, too. Here are a few more in my collection that I love and would recommend: JOLLY GOOD FELLOW, a now-somewhat older (2004) Don Herr intro with interesting color that just blooms and blooms and blooms, and on such a nice scape, too; ISLAND GLAMOROUS GUEST, from George Rasmussen, very quietly elegant blooms (a diploid....don't know whether that matters to you or not); and RUFFLED STRAWBERRY PARFAIT, late and toothy and lovely... Those are just off the top of my head. Oh, and I think I'll second STRUTTER'S BALL, for its color. Last year, at our club's spring luncheon, Curt Hanson said he thought there was nothing better out there in purple daylilies. I can't say I've liked the way mine melted in afternoon hot sun (so it's now sited where it gets some afternoon shade), but when the color's good, it's great. There! A rather arbitrary list of five of my daylilies after all, and, with the exception of JOLLY GOOD FELLOW, all easily obtained and fairly inexpensive I think. The list'd be quite different if I were basing on rarity, as Debra did, but if I were to move again, I'd take 'em all with me. Again. And since I can't seem to stop collecting, I'd have rather more than five to move. Again. :)

Question about your moonflower, Dawn! This is the first year mine actually grew from planted seeds. For some reason, I've planted seed every year, but it has never germinated for me. This year, I planted 2 packets and finally got a few vines up. I love them. My question is whether they will reseed next year, like the other morning glories and cypress vine do? Or, should I collect the seed from them and replant every year? I have blue mistflower going like crazy in the garden right now; lantana 'Miss Huff', Golden Crownbeard (verbesina encelioides-native); native daisy; aster tartaricus 'Jindai' (gorgeous, about 5' tall with purple clusters of blooms with yellow centers); my aster aromatica is about to burst into bloom (very late), asclepias curassavica (tropical milkweed), pink/white salvia, 'Black and Blue' Salvia (it is huge this year, it's 2nd, and the blooms are to die for), solidago (dwarf), morning glories (hot pink with white edge, Japanese), white with blue markings, zinnias, senna bicapsularis (Christmas cassia), white cypress vine, hops, hibiscus 'Texas Star', lobelia cardinalis (beautiful!). Nothing looks outstanding really because of the dry weather and heat we are still having. I have watered the things in pots, and the ground. My gomphocarpus (tall milkweed also called 'Family Jewels', or 'Hairy Balls') is putting on a few seed pods right now, and they are about golf ball size and very unique looking. I really want to grow it next year (it's an annual here), so I will collect the seed when it is ripe. The Monarchs love it! Susan Susan

Julia, a lot of my dl's were much more vibrant colored this year....I am sure it had to do with the amount of rainfall we received this year versus last. DL's need lots of water to really show off their colors.

The sepals on your AW looks light pink to almost cream color with your petals being more pink w/touch of lavender. That's how it looks on my monitor. Not as deep as Jan's 'this years photo'.

This is a flower of many faces. Yours looks so much lighter on a sunny day. Did all the other blooms that followed look as light?

I guess I should ask: Does AW hold up well under wet conditions or melts? From Tom's photo it looks like its holding up pretty good but would like to hear comments.
Same with Wild Horses. Will it hold up under wet conditions?

Mine AW is lighter in color because of a lack of water. I had been out of town for more than a week and took this late on the day I returned. It was very hot, and it hadn't rained in a couple of weeks. The more water it gets, the darker the color.

AUTUMN WOOD holds up well in heat and humidity. So does Wild Horses.

Here is my Wild Horses. I held up very well to wet and to heat.

I bought mine on the LA and planted this spring. It was a nice clump when I received it. Put up 9 scapes and flowered from Jun 27 to Aug 8. The scapes were shorter this year than typical for others growing it in this region but the flowers were large, probably just short because it was new.

There were a few days when it was more peach than its normal creme and I am certain it was weather related.

Julia - Sorry I didn't notice your question earlier. I got Autumn Wood bareroot from Delano Daylilies. I am very happy with my order - all the daylilies are growing well and bloomed.
