I am thinking that it isn't hot enough in Kansas? I am not an expert on Asian Chilis, but Latin American chilis like it very hot and dry.

I'd think it's not nearly HUMID enough in Kansas. You'd need a greenhouse to grow plants bred for Malaysia in dry, dusty Kansas.

I think you can grow peppers in Kansas, but you might need to adjust when or where or how you grow them. I'm not an expert at this you should ask on the vegetable forum or maybe the texas gardener's forum and you will find people who grow lots and lots of different kinds of peppers, there is also an oriental vegetable forum they might know your specific type.

From what I understand, blossom drop in tomatoes and peppers is caused by:

-lack of pollination-if you grew them inside or you didn't have any bees around you need to shake the plants or tap the flowers to get the plants to pollinate so they will make peppers

-not enough light-I think they need like 8 hours of full sunshine on them

-or too much nitrogen (If you fertilized too much)

-temperatures too hot or too cold, will fall off if daytime is above 90 F, or night time below 60F or night time above 75 F-I had this problem with my tomatoes this year, it was above 100F for so long that a lot of flowers fell off before the temperatures finally got cool enough for tomatoes.

You probably need to start them sooner. If you started them early summer, then it was probably too late for your zone. Maybe if you started them indoors during the winter, you could get a good start on the spring.
Some of the cold zone hydro growers grow chileÂs indoors in the winter.

Thanks for the reply everyone. I was curious why the thai chili grows while the Malaysia Chili doesn't, since their the same region plant. After reading Kris' reply, I think sun light could be the factor. I have it at my patio (living in a 2nd floor apartment) and it doesn't get direct sunlight. The thai chili grows but doesn't turn red. My grape tomato turned red eventhoght it doesn't get direct sunlight. It's fall now, so I think I won't bother to keep them over winter and will try from the seed again late winter. I will check out the Asian vegetable forum and see what I can find. Chilli can grow fine anywhere I suppose. Yes, chilli does loves heat and plenty of sunlight. Sometimes too much of calcium , not enough nitrogen or too much nitrogen would do that to the flower. My advice is to do flushing. To wash away the excess overdose fertilizer. Then just water it using plain water for a few days (3 to 5 fays). Done. Great. You then water the chilli plant using water mixed with dead grinded fish with molasess or brown sugar. Fertilizer recipe: Grind dead or rotten fish+Molasses or brown sugar (one tablespoon should be enough) add to 10 litres of water. Use that ingredient to water your chilli. After that your'll notice a diferrence to the tree. After these process just continue with your normal fertilizer. Hope that can help.
