What you have is an Agastache, not a true mint (Mentha). While they are in the same family, 'Golden Jubilee' Agastache acts entirely different, it does not have underground runners like mint. It does reseed readily, but the seedlings are very easy to pull, so I would not consider it invasive in the least. You can simply cut back the flower heads before they go to seed if you want to avoid pulling seedlings in spring, but the chickadees like the seed so I don't mind ;-) The foliage on mine starts of low and mound-y (with lovely purple tinge to them) and then it begins to grow up into a plant like yours. In my garden it reaches about three feet tall and maybe two feet wide. I agree that it isn't as nice looking at this stage, when you can see the "skeleton" of the plant, lol. By the way, my plant always seems to have those pale sickly looking leaves at the bottom and interior. Think that is just the nature of this plant... Planting something in front of it that is bushy will help hide it. It certainly isn't my favorite plants, but I would not consider it a mistake on my part to have planted it. ;-) I agree with gardenweed. Wait for the daffs to die down and then move the Agastache if you want to keep it. CMK

I had exactly the same experience. Got mine for $2 on the clearance table at WalMart, and it was about a foot tall. This year it grew to almost 5 feet tall, and is about 4 feet in diameter. It is just beautiful and I love it. At any given moment there habe to be at least 50 bees of all types on it, and usually a butterfly or two. I recently cut a bunch of long stems with the flower spikes, hung the bunch upside down to dry in the house, and they are just great. The great licorice smell is a nice surprise inside the house.

It is doubtful they would survive a transplant at this stage, and they are sooooooo easy to start from seed... Roadside sounds best. :o)

I saw it somewhere that Kudos Coral was a hybrid. Most of the yellow, orange, hot pink Agastache cultivars are hybrids of usually southwestern species like A. cana and A. rupestris. Probably why they only last a season or 2 in my zone, even tho advertised to be hardy. lol! There are 17 different species of Agastache in North America. The cultivars of the southwestern hybrids might cross with each other, as would any nativars of Agastache foeniculum. The A. foeniculum might cross with very similar species in the same color spectrum like A. rugosa, but I'm not sure about that lol. I wouldn't worry about any orange/purple color combos. Common names like anise hyssup can be missused and confusing. I'm pretty sure Kudos Coral is aromatic, but it doesn't smell like anise. Good job with the seed saving!
