The hibiscus is lovely, what a stunniung shade of pink. Great to see you have some daylily bloom going on. I like the FINAL TOUCH twins. Very nice.

Final Touch is pretty! By the time it opens here it's not that nice pink like in your picture. I like the color of Big Time Happy.
Hibiscus is pretty too! Do you have JBs? I thought mine were gone and was expecting to finally see my roses. Nope, roses opened and JBs are on them again :(

Nat - No junebugs here - just the plague of grasshoppers! They are eating holes in all the softer leaves.

Every bloom is beautiful right now. I am really getting low on blooms, but it has been a fabulous season and you have a while to go yet with the reblooms. I like final touch, and your hibiscus is lovely.

I have an order to finish up with a display garden that sells. Dilly-dallying because I'm having a hard time deciding. This garden has MANY Apps daylilies, and I've got some on my short list. For a late bloomer, there's Darrel's AUGUST ADORATION. Simple, old-fashioned look, but it's red, not yellow. I may not get it this year, but eventually will. For now, my top choices include BRIDGETON ELEGANCE, not for its form, but because it has a knockout scape. Speaking of which, BRIDGETON KNOCKOUT is interesting and very hard to find.

Debra, I was taking a quick stroll through the Woodside Nursery just now. It's still in operation, although under a different owner. I found another late, BRIDGETON IN AUGUST, which is a tall (34"), 5", late "hot orange with a reddish eye." You're tempting me to do an AHS database search for more Apps lates!

Out of curiosity, I counted the number of Apps daylilies on this seller's price list. There are over 90!

I love the first one! Soooo pretty. I went to Woodside site and I searched for Apps and they list the bloom time as July-August so does that mean they are late bloomers? I would like to try a few. Judy

I love Final Touch, mine is finished already. I had to move it mid season though, a shrub grew over it & I didn't even see it til I started looking. I'm surprised it even bloomed, it looked pretty puny when I moved it. It is such a pretty color & your picture is especially nice.

Debra, I think your rain is heading this way. It's supposed to rain tonight. Love your picture of the Final Touch twins. I thought my Big time Happy was finished, butg I see another scape coming up.

Unfortunately, the weather was not kind to our Final Touch. It burned out pretty quickly, but it is a lovely color, and we really like it. Do you grow Meringue Mirage? I believe that is an Apps, but I don't know the bloom time. I do know it is a beautiful double daylily. Avedon.

Lynxe - I was looking at the Woodside Nursery catalog today too! I saw several late ones I liked. Bridgeton In August was at the top of my list, even though it will probably be Bridgeton In July here.

Judy - Throughout his long career, Mr. Apps has hybridized daylilies that bloom at all times in the season. He was based in New Jersey for many years, and retired two years ago. During his last few years of operating Woodside Nursery, hybridizing for lates was one of his goals. The main daylily season in New Jersey is July. So some mid bloomers might start in July and go to August. It tells when they bloom at the top of the information page. Look for late or VL.

Avedon - Sorry your Final Touch burned out quickly. In looking back at my photos, Final Touch was never the same color in any of them. I like today's look better than when it first started blooming and looked rosy red. I don't grow Meringue Mirage, but I've seen it and it is a beautiful double. It is by Apps.

Ngraham - My Final Touch has been bud building this year, so it's blooming longer than in past years.

I just got very happy because I won another late bloomer on the Lily Auction, and it's watermarked! It's called August Cheer (Goldner 1990).

Now that's something I didn't know. He was also trying to produce spiders, another direction that developed toward the end of his hybridizing career. I'm delighted to have won his OCTOPUS'S GARDEN at our auction this past weekend. It's new, a true spider, a ML, has height and nice bloom size, and good branching and bud count, too. Not to mention, it's a color I'm still trying to add to my collection.

Technically correct about main bloom season, but bear in mind that Woodside Nursery is down in Cumberland County, on the Delaware Bay side of the state. I've not checked, but it's quite likely to be zone 7. I used to live not too far from Trenton/Princeton, NJ (zone 6), and it was over a 2-hour drive to Woodside. (In fact, here's a tidbit not too well known....some of south Jersey is south of the Mason-Dixon line, and there were supporters of the Confederacy in that part of the state during the Civil War.)

I have this one, and it's one of those that goes in the category of Never Getting Rid of It. There's just something about its lush feminine-looking blooms, and the soft colors. The AHS database describes it as a "cream and orange blend." To my eyes, it's a soft pink/beige/creamy...hard to describe. The parents are SILOAM DOUBLE CLASSIC and FRANCES JOINER, so think of those colors.

I also especially love the fact that it always doubles -- the database description of 100% is accurate, for me at least.

And finally, it has a lovely fragrance. I was walking to the Woodside office to pay for my plants one year, and I passed a planter filled with some kind of daylily. (There were these enormous and tall planters, like monster-sized barrels, throughout the sales yard, each one crammed with one kind of daylily.) Because of the planters' height, the blooms were high enough to admire as one walked around. I had one foot in the air and was literally stopped in my tracks by the fragrance coming from that planter, of, yes, MERINGUE MIRAGE. Promptly turned around to grab a pot and add it to my order.

Unless I really dislike a daylily's flower, I'll often buy something simply because it's registered as fragrant or very fragrant.

Nice going. I saw that one and was very tempted. However, I resisted, which in the end was easy to do, as I have SO MANY plants to get in the ground now or that are coming soon. Interesting coincidence that I've just realized: three that I'm getting are Goldners. ADELINE GOLDNER and GOLDNER'S BOUQUET are MLs, and ORANGE CLOWN is a late.

This weekend I got THE BLOOD IS THE LIFE, a Bachman uf that is late; someone on another group had posted a picture of it, and it immediately went on my short list. Needless to say, I was delighted when I remembered it would be available at our auction. Not only does this one have good stats, but it's got a modern look as well, and beautiful color. Lots of lates and very lates are older and hence, merely OK in my opinion. They may lack something in their form, and they may have uninteresting color. Not always, of course, but now there are newer things that one can grow instead.

If anyone is interested, I have a few more things to say about Meringue Mirage. I first saw this when I stumbled across the Charlotte's Daylily Diary and clicked on the photos section. I opened the Julie Covington site and there was Floota's photos. I wanted to see the doubles and she had only one there--guess what it was? Meringue Mirage, and the photo is just stunning. I don't know why I haven't gotten this one yet, but it is going to have to go on the MUST HAVE LIST, especially since Lynxe says it is super fragrant. I think true fragrant daylilies are hard to come by. I know I have a few called super fragrant, but not to my nose, so this may be an individual thing. However, I want this daylily, fragrant or not, because it is beautiful to me. Avedon P. S. I am going to look up the bloom time, I don't think it is a mid-or late bloomer. The bloom time will not be a factor to me, but it might to someone else.

Debra, nice going on August Cheer. I read this and had to go look at closed items in the Lily Auction and it is a beauty. I am not familiar with that LA seller, Bnich in Athens, IL. Have you bought from them before? Recommend them?

I am having a hard time not bidding for some new Hansons on the Lily Auction. I put in bids not expecting to win, but I won all three. Two are 2011 intros: Tiffany Shade (a late) and Allegheny Skyline. The other was at the top of my wish list: Cool Hand Luke, one of Curt's 2010 pinched-throated beauties.

oh my.I just love that FINAL TOUCH. its a beauty.the others are real pretty, too.I sure am missing my blooms now,Just have one bud left on CONDILLA and dont see no rebloom scapes no where.
