My Stella that has been performing like a champ all summer (with normal blooms)... and then THIS:

A fully double flower:

And today, the other blooms on that scape - a half doubled flower and a totally normal one:

Hi. Thank you. I looked at the pictures. Although the nuts look somewhat the same, the color is creamy white, and I would not describe these nuts as easy to crack. I think it was planted from a selection, from what I have read. These are good quality nuts and not terrible to remove from the shell. I really hate to lose this tree. It has fruit every year and not every other as the article states wild ones do.

Angie, the armadilloes dig up my plants if they're little when I plant them out. To solve this problem, I let my plants grow in their containers for a long time, sometimes over a year, to get plenty of size and root mass on them. And after I plant them, I put big logs (I've saved a lot of the bigger ones from hurricane fallen trees) around them where the armadilloes can't reach them. Of course, this doesn't stop the deer. The deer must have been browsing quite a lot around here, because a lot of my newly planted trees and shrubs are bitten back. I was really upset today when I found a Shumard oak that was full of beautiful new leaves a day or so ago is now bitten down so badly you can't believe it! It's completely defoliated, and the stems on the top have are bitten back. I think I'm going to ask some deer hunters to use my property! And I've about given up trying to grow clethra - they must love that most of all! :( MissSherry

double ditto... your sister has obviously failed at the most basic responsibility of a parent- which is to raise a child capable of surviving on their own. why you are rewarding his rudeness and slovenly habits is beyond me- and how you think that 'taking care of him' this way is in any way loving, or good for him- I don't get. all you're doing it teaching him that the cleaning faeries will do for him, and that he is immune to the laws that the rest of us live by. I'm sorry you have a loser like that as a next door neighbor- but you should really start looking on him as a neighbor, not a family member, since he's hardly treating you with the respect that an aunt would expect in MY family! us kids are expected to fetch and carry (and mow lawns, and walk dogs, and run errands, and shovel snow) for our elders, not the other way around!

Haley Lovely kitchen - Typically privacy is more an issue at night time when it is easy to see in windows where rooms are lit. If people can see in during the day - they must be up super close! In any event - I wouldn't do shutters, you will need lots of room for clearances - I doubt they would work by the sink. Blinds would be a better solution, while I think dark may work, I would venture that they may get & show dust much more readily than ivory. I think a nice roman would be lovely - Link below to smith & noble - pricey but a nice place to get ideas good luck Here is a link that might be useful: smith & noble romans

I actually bought 'Going Bananas' which is a child of Happy Returns, and is a beautiful, bright lemon yellow. They crossed 'Happy Returns' with 'Brocaded Gown' and now we have this lovely! On Tinker's it says it isn't fragrant, but mine sure was! It also does not say that it has extended bloom, but it seemed like the flower would open REALLY early in the morning and stay all night, sometimes even until early the next morning! I call that extended!

Very nice blooms.My Stella's some times has a double or two at the end of the season.One of my clumps last year had a bout half come double and the other half regular at the end of the season.

Hmmm.. I wonder if it is more common than I thought! I thought of Stella as just a plain jane... not that it kept me from using her to cross stuff with... :o) Her habits are great!
