I know you need rain badly. Wish some of this rain we get would be sent down south instead. Sorry about those nasty voles. Poor INDIAN GIVER.

I think it was the heat and the dryness that got to it. The voles are after Spoken in Parables, so I will probably move it today.

The trials and tribulations of a flower farmer! I'm sorry about your loss Kay. We had so much rain this year that everything is growing like weeds, especially the weeds! The aphids have been really bad this year. Thank God they don't seem to like the daylilies! I purchased Indian Giver this year and I will probably lose mine to the cold! :(

I'm sorry about Indian Giver, wish you could get some rain. I've had Indian Giver 3 times & lost it, although one doesn't count. Just got it planted & a dog or something dug it up & was a while before I noticed it. I'm tempted to try again, it is an oldie but I love the color.

Oh no! I didn't remember what Indian Giver looked like, so I looked it up, and it is a really pretty one. I hope you can save the rest of your beauties from the drought and voles!

Honalee, my IG refused to bloom for the first 3 years in my garden. I gave her a good talking to last year and finally this year she sent up a few scapes with low bud count but the blooms were beautiful.

am very sorry Kay, that you lost INDIAN GIVER its really a pretty bloom.I lost one too, I lost FOR YOUR EYES ONLY to crown rot..

Are you sure it is really gone & not just gone summer dormant?

We have perpetual drought here and when my sprinklers get blocked by something growing up in front of them I sometimes have daylilies that will go to sleep earlier than usual to preserve their energy, sometimes even in mid summer. I've had some really surprise me both with this and with what I thought was a winter kill. A couple months later when the weather is more to their liking they may send up new shoots.

If the roots & crown actually rotted then it is gone.

IG is a lovely flower. Mine is 2nd year in my garden and just coming into its prime. I too planted it in the back expecting it to be taller and need to move it to the front of the bed.

I have had Indian Giver for 5 years now and it has always done well for me.
Marilyn, I was surprised when I read that yours had few scapes and a low bud count. Mine has always had lots of buds and flowered for a fairly long time each year. Could it be that IG is a daylily that prefers a cooler climate? Marg

I hope you are right Marg cause I just got IG this year. I'm terrible for not checking to see if any are cold hardy. I take my chances every chance I get.....:)

I really like Indian Giver. I have had it for several years. It is a full goner...I planted Wild One in its place, which should be much more appropriate for that placement, since Indian Giver is a shorter viariety.

I will plant the new Indian giver in the lower row in front of the row of daylilies I planted last year.

I see two other people have questioned whether it has gone summer dormant. That was my suspicion too. Was the crown totally gone when you dug it up?

There was absolutely no sign of the plant except the label. The voles probably had a feast.

It will be planted in different place.
