Posting your photos using thumbnails

Hey all!

Becky asked if the instructions were available for posting thumbnails. I added it to the FAQ along with the general photo posting thread.

If you have suggestions on how to make the instructions more clear or other additions to the FAQ, please let em know - I am HAPPY to add them!

Yaslan, go back to your Album Settings and uncheck the "Images Link Back to Album" radio button. This will make allow a full size images display without showing your personal album page. Second, you are using the wrong code. You need the HTML code labeled HTML Code: for full size image display. Use the code labeled HTML Thumb: to display a thumbnail image that clicks to the larger version. Since your Album is open for me to see, I can see the correct code to use on the left side of the page: Be patient. You will figure it out soon. You can use the Preview button when postingto see if your pasted code works properly before it becomes a permanent submission.

I've been running a thread on the Building a Home forum that substantially repeats this thread and refers to our FAQ. The issue of private versus public albums on Photobucket came up (I thought the whole album had to be public to allow you to link to it without a password). aa62579 says that you can link to a specific photo in a private album and that link will be visible. You just can't link to the whole private album and see it without a password. I've never used Photobucket so I'm asking the question of those of you who are familiar with sites such as Photobucket, Picasa, PictureTrail, etc.. Is this a general characteristic of all web-hosting sites? I'd like to add this information to the FAQ. Thanks, Claire

I have to put an addendum here.....for those who use PBase and want to make clickable thumbs as described above. The reason why I had a problem with thumbnails in my other post "Window Shopping" here in the gallery.....after I so carefully explained how to make clickable thumbnails only to find they didn't work for my PBase links LOL....I consulted with PBase to learn that their location of the URL for the thumbs..... as I described above ....is not reliable as the thumbs could be moved to another server....which is what happened to mine and why they didn't show up properly. They have another system for making a thumb URL, using direct linking to the original photo but with "/small" before the dot jpg. In other words, the second half of the code string is the same as the first only with the addition of a slash and the word "small", here shown in red: I hope that helps make it easier and sorry if anyone using PBase tried to use the above and found it didn't work. Kelly, I think the table would look much better on my porch. :) Those are perfect color combinations too. It won't get rained on will it? I have two recent spots in my home. Now that the sun is shining through the windows again I love looking at my utility room in the afternoons. It also makes a nice plant hospital for the other plants in my house in case they get sick. Not a good picture because of the shadows on the shutters. They look really dark in this picture, but they're a light cream. Below is the lamp I bought specifically for the sofa table, but stupid me forgot how dark shades give off poor light, even though this is a 3-way. But the lamp found a new home in a small corner in the living room and it's perfect there. The area really highlights the embroidery on the shade. You can't tell from this picture but the two walls are only about 3 feet wide, which makes it a fun and difficult spot to decorate.

I'm with you, Ken. Thumbnails are even more time-consuming than links. Give me an image that jumps out at me without clicking somewhere else, again to enlarge, and back again.

GEEZ KEN!

Last time I posted full sized photos, you complained they were too big!

WAH WAH WAH WAH WAH!

Thumbnails are a reasonable solution for those with dial-up to be able to load smaller images and click only on what they want to enlarge. Those who have broadband can click on them to get incredible detail! If you click on one of my thumbnail photos, then click it again it magnifies it even further.

Then again, if you have no desire to see someones photos at all, then you don't have to waste ANY time or bandwidth while they load.

There is also a way to enlarge them using the wheel thingy on a mouse rather than clicking. If you really have an aversion to that extra click, you may want to investigate that method.

well here is the problem ..

i block popups .... so if i click a thumbnail.. i have to first click on every post to unblock popups ....

then i have to click each thumb..

then i have to click to close each thumb ...

thats a lot of clickin ....

its just too overwhelming at times ... rotflmbo .....

bottom line: do whatever pleases you .... who cares what i think ... i have the right to state my opinion .... you have the right to ignore my opinion.. NO MORE NEED BE SAID [which is apparently a thesis they dont quite understand over in the daylily forum ....lol....] ..

PS: when i complained about your big ones.. when you first tried your new camera ..... they wordwrapped on my 15 inch monitor... now that is just too big.. and it overwhelmed me .. lol ...

I came over here to get away from all the bickering on the DL forum, and here you guys are bickering.....I HOPE it's all in fun?

I just gave Becky instructions on how to create thumbnails in the "A" Hostas.

I guess I'll do a little of both - thumb's and full size.
There's just no pleasing everybody, is there?

absolutely .. i am mocking the day lillers.. and poking fun at one of my best GW buds here...

never forget.. when you come to a new forum .. you might not know who the best buds are ...

all in all ... there isn't any bickering here ... and when there is.. i just leave that post ... and NEVER go back ... as you note.. who needs the aggravation ...

Alexa and i have gone as far as trading recipes... if that tells you anything ....

someone once told me.. and i quote loosely ... that if you ever want to see the worst of people... join a church group or a garden club ... then he went insane and got himself kicked off all the garden forums ... lol ... and he was an atheist .. so he didn't worry about church groups.. and now he is lonely ... lol
